Rock Ralley a No go in Collin County

The Rock Rally was denied the permit from the Collin county
commission, so they will have to re-locate or cancel. See below:

Biker rock rally not a hit with Collin commissioners

12:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, April 4, 2006

Ed Housewright

We don't want you.

No-nonsense Collin County commissioners delivered this terse message
to Gary
Littlefield last week. Mr.Littlefield wants to bring the 2006 North
Rock Rally to ruralCollin County in July.

This is not a geological conference.

Several thousand bikers - motorcycle enthusiasts - want to get
together for
fellowship and some head-bangingrock 'n' roll. The slogan used to
the event? "Ride Hard ...Get Attitude ... Live Free."

Commissioners Jerry Hoagland and Joe Jaynes worry that revelers might
exercise too much freedom. As in illegal drug use, nudity and

Sheriff Terry Box urged commissioners to deny Mr. Littlefield a mass
gathering permit during a hearing lastweek. He said last year's
North Texas
Rock Rally in neighboring Denton County gave law officers a headache.

"We're worried about the traffic problems this is going to create,
the noise
complaints, DWIs, traffic violations, drug trafficking, weapons
and increase in relative crime," Sheriff Box told commissioners.

Mr. Littlefield, however, said the concernsare overblown.

"Motorcycle rallies are the most low-key events there are," said Mr.
Littlefield, president of the Pegasus Agency in Dallas. "People who
come to
ours generally stay on the property because we have camping."

The event would be July 21-23 at Paradise Ranch, formerly known as
the Bill
Bates Ranch. The 368-acre spread is on FM1461 north of McKinney.

Commissioners voted 2-1 last week to deny the rally permit. Mr.
Hoagland and
Mr. Jaynes opposed it, while Commissioner Phyllis Cole voted to
grant the
permit. County Judge Ron Harris and Commissioner Jack Hatchell were

The issue may not be dead, though.

Mr. Littlefield has e-mailed commissioners, saying he'd like to get
back on
the agenda and make his case again. The denial, he wrote, was based
"inaccurate information."

"We feel strongly that this will be a financially beneficial event
for the
Collin County area," Mr.Littlefield wrote to commissioners.

Don't bother, Mr. Hoagland said.

"I don't need to see any more onit," he said. "I'm not going to
change my
vote. I saw thepictures that were handed out. That was enough."

He's referring to a 20-page color booklet that Mr. Littlefield gave
commissioners. It features several pictures of women in halter tops
motorcycles and women competing in a swimsuit contest sponsored by

The North Texas Rock Rally Web site says events will include a tattoo
contest, chili cook-off and hot-air balloon rides. Motorcycle stunt
Robbie Knievel will be master of ceremonies. As many as 25,000
people might

"The motorcycle industry has grown intoa multi-billion dollar
community," Mr. Littlefield says inthe booklet. "Patrons within this
community are a cross section of various economic and socials

Ms. Cole is on board with the rally.

"I voted to give them the permit because they had done a lot of
and it looked like they had good plans for everything," she said. "I
have a
lot of friends who ride motorcycles - doctors, lawyers."

McKinney Chamber of Commerce and a couple of charities that would
get revenue
from the event are supporting the rockrally.

"The North Texas Rock Rally comes at atime when we really need it,"
according to a letter from Ray A.Coleman, founder of Tapestry
one of the beneficiaries.

The rally was moved from Denton County because the site, an old dude
was no longer suitable, Mr.Littlefield said.

Mr. Jaynes, who represents the area around Paradise Ranch, hasn't
changed his

"It's not a family event," he said."There are a good number of folks
in the
surrounding area that would hear it, see it and be affected by it.

"It's going to be loud, long and lewd."
