I tend to think that it is much better to build your own house from scratch than to buy a ready-made one. I agree that it will cost a lot more, but you get complete freedom for your imagination in return. I was once faced with a similar choice, and my wife and I thought long and hard about what would be best for us. In the end, we decided to build our own house because we already had the approximate design and layout of the rooms in our heads.
