SV650 and Gas w/Ethanol
I had my carbs cleaned in January and ran a few track days with gas that was ethanol free. Now that I've moved up here and gas has 10% ethanol my bike is running poorly. Bogging down low and backfiring when hard on throttle, backing down and back in the gas. I'm thinking my pilot jet is fouled, tried seafoam and just a little bit better. Is it possible the ethanol gas is the issue?

Yes, but it's due to the 30% or higher additives the companies add in to the fuel because of the ethanol.
When the gas evaporates, the residue left behind clogs small pilot passages so your bike won't run well. You'll need to fully disassemble and clean the carbs, I'd also recommend replacing the fuel screw o-rings while you're at it. The first line of defense after that will be to keep Stabil and Sea Foam in the tank at all times. Give me a call if you need some help. |
