Who uses ethanol free gas and where do you find it? Trying to find if there’s any near the central Houston area.

You're going to have to drive quite a bit to get it, so I would call before hand and make sure they actually have it. Last time someone asked about this on here, I remember there only being one place in south Texas having this fuel on a pump... So it may, or may not be in business still.
Why are you needing ethanol-free? |

Remove the ethanol yourself. That's what I do. Way cheaper that buying ethanol free gas.

this rain has really brought out the skeetoes!
It's really more simple than it sounds. Buy whatever grade you want. For example: 1 gallon of 92. If you have 1 Gal it's only 90% gasoline and 10% ethanol. You need to remove the 10%. You dump in 1/4 Gal of water. So you need a bigger container for mixing. About 1.5 Gal. So the ratio that works good is 1 part fuel to .25 (1/4) part water (or 4:1). It doesn't need to be precise. Just close. It's easier to separate if the container has a mouth like the size of a bleach bottle. Shake the living out of it or use some sort of mixer. Then turn the container upside down so the mouth is down. Let it sit undisturbed for about 2 hours. It's more interesting if you use a clear container. Then you can see it happen. It starts instantly even during mixin dood. You'll see the water separate from the gasoline. The water contains all the ethanol and the gasoline is now ethanol free. Slowly crack open the cap on the container and let the water drain. You won't smell any gas in that liquid. Some bubbles will obviously want to come up, but the effect is negligible. You can make a hole in the bottom if you don't like the bubbles, but then you can't use the container again. If you measure the water you drain out you'll end up with about 40% more because it's full of ethanol. What's left is 9/10 gallon of ethanol free gasoline. _______________________________________ I reprocess mine afterward in a micro refinery and get pure, colorless, odorless fuel the equivalent of 92 oct race fuel. The exhaust smells completely different, just like race fuel. But the micro refinery produces a yield of 50%. It takes 2 gal to make 1 gal. Tell you what, this stuff will tear the out of your weed eater and you'll end up buying a new one. ![]() It was a performance comparison test that ended badly. ![]() ![]() |

A tip -
Also, when you guys go to bed at night make sure her front tire is laying on a nice fluffy pillow (unless another part of the plan is to get a little kinky). Snuggle up close and get an arm around her tank. Maybe you can even get a hand on her jug. Start with spooning and then move your leg around until you can get one foot on a peg. Try to keep her comfy. Remember, the legal limit is .08 and she's already at 1.00. Your body heat will help remove the alcohol by morning and she won't even be hung over. |

While you can remove ethanol from the gas, you should be aware that it changes the octane rating. You could, depending on what you are putting it in, run into detonation problems.
Another thing to consider is that, it's not like there's just 2 chemicals in a gallon of gas. There are a bunch of additives used to change the way gas works inside the engine. Removing the ethanol will change the proportions of that mix as well. Not saying don't do it, just be aware, do a little research first. Most likely it'll be fine... Unless it's a high performance engine on a hot day. |

Absolutely correct. 92 oct ends up closer to 90. Crude has over 250 "identified" constituents. About another 100 or so "unidentified" trace constituents (I don't call them elements because most of them aren't actual elements). For gasoline, refinement of gasoline is set to guarantee on-road gasoline ends up containing 9 or 10 required for proper internal combustion, and to meet gubment requirements for on-road vehicles another 12 constituents are manually added. Pre-det is also 100% correct as witnessed by my weed eater, but this fuel was also put through the micro-refinery first. It's a different animal after that. Recalibrating your engine properly is key. Personally, I don't know about cars or trucks though. I only use it for other purposes. Both my neighbor and I remove ethanol. He also runs his through a micro-refinery (I don't for my bikes) and runs it exclusively in his and his wife's 2016 ZX14s. He "claims" he can instantly tell the difference. I told him he need to put it on a dyno. Sikatri: I’m thinking it might be worth doing to gas one suspects of having water. Otherwise you end up with a disposal issue. Water isn't an issue as long as you drain it all out before dumping it into your tank. It doesn't mix with gasoline. It's great gasoline so don't "dispose" of it. If you're referring to the leftover water/ethanol, dump it on the driveway. It's water. Evaporated water and alcohol are nonpolluting. If you're talking about water in your tank, just buy a bottle of HEAT or similar. It's just adding alcohol back into the gasoline and alcohol is required to make all three molecules mix. Again, this sounds way more complicated or worrisome than it is, but COVID's gong to kill yer ugly anyway so who gives a . Actually, there won't be any issues unless you're personally doing something else weird. |
