Man I hate ethanol.
I have to clean the carbs on my mini/scooter more often than I change the oil.

Yeah, but it makes great politics and there is too much money involved. Expect MORE not less.

Its on the cars I work on too.. They idle crazy.. run rough. all kinds of garbage.. We cant do anything but waste our time looking at it only to blame it on fuel.

Must say.. I loved (e85) it in my little street car though.. Just had to make sure you fill all the way up before a night of runs.. couple runs and your down a 1/4 tank already..

The EPA recently approved 15% ethanol - even with MANY groups opposing it.

https://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101013/...us_epa_ethanol

It will trash up cars older than 2007 and cars with carbs and bikes, etc.

Perry tried to fight it but got slapped back.

there is a "congressional mandate for increased ethanol use "

Corn lobby has to be one of the most powerful lobby out there.

Hmm...I think this is deeper. One of the other players in position to gain from this is car manufacturers (and their unions). If anything older than 2007 is going to stop working well then motivation to by the new cars will go up.

The reason that Houston won't get this is due to unburned hydrocarbons (HC). Ethanol is the oxygenator du jour. It lowers the amount of HC, by making more oxygen available in the combustion chamber (leaner burning more than oxygen availability, in my opinion) and to the catalytic converter (waste heat). HC leads to some environmental problems, which the populous and the EPA don't like (your lungs like it even less). However, from the research that I've seen Ethanol has combustion byproducts that are even worse for humans than HC. Go figure, and all because MBTE tastes bad.

As for Ethanol gumming up carbs; I wonder if my good luck will continue after the bump to E15. I have run +45K miles on my carb'ed v-twin without cleaning the carbs. I do burn +2.2 gallons per day in a 3 gallon tank run only on reserve, which may be why I haven't seen any performance decrease.

I've been told Ethenol is counter productive to even make. It's pointless and it's not doing vehicles any good. Big waste of money.

Makes the corn farmers happy.

They are also advertising how much better corn is to use as a sweetner than cane
