Dude. I should have stopped to talk to you and your buddy. I saw you out there. You may remember seeing the wife and I walking by your camp site with our cat.

Looks like a nice easy getoff on soft sand. Loaded too! I love that place. Spent a many nights and days there. I thought camping was not allowed. Did the police hastle you?
I disagree. I have a great time on dirt with mine and at the track too. It's more road oriented, sure. |

1-it had a BMW emblem and Kawasaki name 2-the Kawi website alludes that is is really just a street bike. IMO, though if you want to take a bike off road, have fun. I have been on some rocky roads on my bike as well and I have thought of getting a versys for my next bike. Overall though it looks like a nice place to camp(if you are allowed), warning though your tent may be keyed. |

2) The Kawasaki website used to say the exact opposite, and used to say it was a "dual sport." I have no way to prove this, but if you check ed their website in 2008 thats what it said. While the Versys off road capabilities are somewhat hindered by the 17 inch front, lots of folks (see www.advrider.com ) are slapping a 19 inch front with spokes on there. I also think the muffler could be in a better location. needs skid plates, crash bars This guy did a little more but was rebuilding a salvage... |

3) the versys threads are in the Beasts section of ADV rider along with "Other polycylindered dualsports..."
I rest my case. |

This was a woman who had completely fried her brain with drugs. So I took her all up and down the beach in the middle of the night. The whole time with her yelling, crying and laughing. At one point she tried to chase a crab into the water. We ended back at our campsite and she said "I have to go sit down" Then walked over to my buddys Hammock tent, sat underneath it and refused to move. So I looked at him and said "Looks like its your problem now." ![]() So we ended up calling the sheriff to come out and help here, but none of them knew where the beach was. She was very excited to see him when he arrived 2 hours later. Obviously it wasn't the first time she had to be helped by the law. Not the first time he's dropped it. He is acutually quite good off road on it as long as its not something slippery like loose gravel or sand. I wish I had gotten some video of us tearing it up in the big ditches and fields behind Bass Pro at 288 and the beltway. |

Small world indeed. Yeah, lots of people comment on us taking our cat out to the beach (or camping). I got tired of going camping, seeing everyone bring their dogs, so I decided to start bringing my cat. She especially loves the beach and chasing the sand crabs at night.

That was my Versys and me dropping it in the sand. It wasn't particularly top heavy, it was some bulky sleeping stuff and clothes, probably 20 pounds of on it, if you don't count the ice chest (it didn't fall on that side anyways, haha). I told him I was going to do that when I saw he turned the GoPro on at beach Buc-ees. My Versys has control guards, crash bars and panniers, so it doesn't do much when you drop it. I want to get the Rad Manufacturing hubs that the ADVMoto Versys has, so I can replace my alloy 17" dirt plow with a 19" spoked cookie cutter.
![]() No, the Versys isn't a dual sport bike, but you can make do. It'll get through most anything if you don't mind dropping it. It's a bargain for the 6000$ I paid for it new, the Triumph Tiger costs 4 grand more I think, and weighs something like 73 pounds more. Plus you still need panniers and such for touring. Even with new wheels, all the farkles, and panniers, the Versys is still cheaper than a Tiger. The Versys will do a hundred+ the highway and soak up most bumps on fire roads, plus it's good at long range. I know because I took it on two 1800 miles trips this summer, and did some minor offroading in the mountains in New Mexico. That said, if morvegil wants to buy me a Triumph Tiger, so I can drop it in the sand too, I would accept, I only got one bike. I could use a 2nd, or a 3rd, or a 4th, or so on. I've camped on both sides of San Luis Pass and never been hassled. , I lived in Surfside for 5 or 6 years, camping is common. The only place I believe you can not camp is on the paid beach in Surfside Village, and probably near houses in incorporated villages in Galveston. Dozens of other people camp in the unincorporated areas, the key is to not camp in the tide change areas and get washed off ![]() Have a nice day! |
