Special Edition Models- why pay more
Why is it that special edition models are always about 1k to 1,500 more than the regular one and the only difference is the color of the plastics. Unless they come with a custom exhaust which the special editions don't and if they do its mor like 2-3k more.
Why not just buy the regular one then go have it painted for less. I think special edition is a joke. Why can't they just say you can buy the cooler color bike because the motor and everything else is exactly the same as that plain black one. I guess my question is, "why should someone spend the extra money to buy special edition other than for the color of the plastics?" I have a friend who bought a special edition zx10 and it has no mods but he says his zx10 will smoke any other zx10. So I laughed and went and got my all stock zx10 out of storage and shut him up. There was no point trying to explain it to him because he was so caught up on the word "Special edition". |

i think its funny how many people put "limited edition" on their for sale ads when only a few bikes are true LE's, most are 1 yr paintjobs.

The Confusion
|
People are willing to pay extra for exclusivity. Companies are in the business of making money.
end of story. |

I agree. example the bike I have.
I wanted the grafitti cbr, I didn't know it was going to cost 500 over sticker price or else I would have just bought a regualr paint scheme cbr. In my case I got lucky and the guy doing the paperwork forgot to charge the extra for the "limited edition" that I bought. So in actuality I got it at the same price as all the other Cbr's. But I agree it is a rip-off if you do pay that extra for a "limited edition" that you and every one's mom is rollig around on. |

Special Edition
I guess it is in the fine print. A "Special Edition" is not necessarily a "Limited Edition"; however, a limited edition by it's limited nature is always a special edition.
If it doesn't say "Limited Edition", it is not limited. |

everything is limited. now if there were "custom editions" that you REALLY could mix-n-match paints,hardware..etc ,etc. but still concidered "factory" applied. i would go for that. (if ONLY it cost less to do it this way NOW, compared to doing it on my own later.

my vw gti is a limited production to 5000, anniversary edition. #3081. triumph has had a "special edition" daytona 675 in 08' and 10'. the 08 was black with gold graphics. the 10' has a blue frame, white plastics, and blue graphics. it is more money. was in 08' also. i think they are both hideous. my neon blue was a 1 year color also and is way more attractive for $800? less. i understand your laugh

I spent the extra change cause I wanted the Repsol... Orange is my favorite color and I like the look. Had I known Honda was going to come out with the silver/ orange this year I might have waited to see it. But the orange is just a little different and I like the Repsol better.

Most of us will pay more to get what we want. Buying the regular one and going to have it painted.....your STILL paying more to have what you want.
When I bought mine (SE ZX10) it was the only ZX10 they had on the floor, I liked it and I bought it. If there had been an all green one there.........I would have bought something else. ![]() |

Thats exactly my point. If they are going to charge more and say special edition they shoud at the very least come with aftermarket exhaust and power commander. unless they come with chrome rims and swing arm. But if its just special because its painted, then it just looses its selling impact.

what about "limited to 500" or something? I wanted a black 1000RR and in 08 they only made 500 of them ;(
or a repsol they only sell a few of. sure the plastic is different but the frame is silver on them where the other ones have black and the rims are orange as well. that worth the extra? it is if thats what you want. |

Simple answer - people are dumb enough to pay for it. If they can mark the price up, they will.
It's like asking why people pay more money for Oakleys or Louis Vuitton, etc. If people are gonna pay for it, the companies are going to charge for it. |
