Hey Tom, the differences you see in the speed are actually pretty substantial. My inability to control the y-axis scale for speed makes it appear less significant. Any time you can see a wide gap between speeds at a particular location on the track, it's a good place to be examining.

I'm intrigued to say the least!

One thing though, do you think that insetting the two graphs affects the graph? I'm just thinking a "circle" inset another "circle" changes the "circumference" and it actually looks like Gonzo is braking earlier and longer than Brandt in spots or makes them look closer by comparison.

Impressive toys you've got there Curt, I wish I could afford that kind of stuff (just because I like shiney objects and gadgets... ).

1:51.6 was your theoretical fast lap.

Folks, let me explain what we are talking about. I have set up track segments on the GPX-Pro to split TWS (Texas World Speedway) into 6 segments. The theoretical fast lap is the sum of the fastest of each of those segments. Alonso's was only two tenths faster than his fastest recorded lap, plus he ran very close to his fastest lap twice. For the data acquisition geeks, that means Alonso's laps were very consistent.

You have to be pretty careful in the examination of the red/green chart. When the line is red, it means the rider is slowing... not necessarily braking. If the line turns red before the other rider, he's definitely backing off the throttle earlier, at a minimum.

I get your point about the inset track lines. If the lines change colors in very close proximity, it might be debatable whether it's an optical distortion. However, when there is a significant deviation it is clear the rider either reduced throttle or picked up the throttle earlier.

The cool part about all this analysis is the ability to really pinpoint where a rider is slower or faster. It's very difficult to do this by simply following another rider. Now Brandt knows where he can get the most bang for his buck, trying to improve. Turn 2 is clearly the top of the list, followed by Turn 3 and turn 12. He can go out and ride and relax in the other corners, and focus on those three areas.

fresh off of some personal bests for me this weekend and it being fresh it's good info for me too! my line thru 1 is more like alonzo's. studying this I can see how it's gas or brake. I tend to coast alot more need to stay on the gas and brake more. Good info Curt! Nice seeing you out there mang! I would have liked to get some info too! maybe next year huh

Wow, just wow. I like all the tools you have Curt, I would be happy to see the changes if doing consistently for a rider throughout a year, specially in the rookie season. Maybe in 2010 you can support someone.

I have just about convinced myself that I dont have the , confidence or whatever, to carry the lean angle that some of these guys do, Alonzo in particular. That lack of lean angle hurts my corner speed and that, in turn, hurts my drive.

Having said that, a hypothetical of 51:6 and a real lap, in my first, of :51:5 give me some encouragement.

Not too terribly shabby for a 6"5' 258lb fat guy. Maybe I need a litre bike.

Again, thanks for the info Curt. I know that it takes alot of time to sort it all out and post it.

And I'll volunteer to be that support rider next year.

My lap chart probably won't look to different from their laps. The lines would look very similar. You would need to have mph in the turns to see a difference. Braking and throttle lines would be very close but the amount of each would be the difference. Brandts times are slower than Alonzo's because of the extra 100lbs he carries. Brandt invest in a 07 or 08 GSXR 1000.
