Possible helpfull tips for street riders.
I see many threads from riders asking what is the best oil, tires, battery, chain and sprockets, air pressure, coolant, etc.
Over my 61 years iíve gathered a wealth of useless information i will share with you.
As we all know it may not apply to every rider but i would bet itís the majority. Here goes nothing.
1. Oil: Run the weight the manufactor calls for for your bike. Run a good quality brand and change it regularly. Use OEM filters as much as possible.
2. Air filter: Unless your a pro racer theres no need to run aftermarket air filters. For street the OEM works better IMO as far as filtering dirt. Make sure you check it. Most riders dont because its usually hard to get to.
Tires: This one IMO is the most confusing for most. You DO NOT need the most expensive stickiest tire made to ride on the street. Most roads around our area arent curvy enough and most of us arent good enough to justify them. Get a good sport touring tire that will give you more mileage and cost less than half.
Tire Pressure: Run what manufactor suggests for your bike. Rossi and Marquez can run lower pressure cause they are pros, you arent. All youíre doing is killing the life if the tire by the extra heat for street riding
4. Chain and Sprockets: Dont buy a cheap ebay set that cost $100 for everything. Get a good name brand chain and sprocket. They are all good.
5. Coolant: Put a good brand per manufactor specs. Check your overflow bottle to make sure its at the correct level.
Iím sure we will have naysayers and thats fine. My opinions are based on street riding only. Drag racing, track racing certainly calls for different settings. Any opinions are welcome so we can help those who are just starting out wondering about these topics.
