Just Bought My Dream Bike: Let's Try This Again

It's only now that I realize the irony of titling my SP2 purchase thread as my "dream bike"...since that's all the SP2 has apparently become...a dream. Truthfully...more of a nightmare...for Honda and for me.

I'm sure it's no secret that the CBR1000rr SP2 has not been all that Honda has wished it was. Whatever the reasons (and there appears to be several), it's just not the bike that it was cracked up to be. It's not performing well, has several key issues that don't look to have any real solution in the near future, and has now been delayed for delivery until "early next year." Pile on all the -poor communication from Mother Honda, and I'm done (so are two other SP2 depositees I know). I've pulled my deposit and gone elsewhere after being a 16-year Honda loyalist...sad day indeed.

But happy days are coming...and soon. Dropped by and had a nice round with Brian at Italian Superbikes today (he was kind enough to meet me on his day off). Now...Let's just say I'm not much of window shopper...I knew EXACTLY what I was going in there for. So...an hour later, we shook hands, signed some paperwork...and hopefully you guys will see me riding this sexy thing at Sammy's Cycle Bash on the 24th...providing we can get her dressed for the Prom in time.

Today begins a new era...the era of the Ape.......

Nice.

My new short list is HP4 Race or real 1984 Honda NS500 GP bike

I am sure it will take less time to save for and locate either than trying to buy the SP2 LOL

That Ape looks killer. Very smooth in matte black. And it is sad that Aprilia beat Honda to the 1000cc V4 super-bike in the modern era.

And it seems 'used' HP4 Races are only worth 60... LOL

That's a shame. My S1 is a dream come true! Especially since disconnecting the exhaust flapper.

Nice Ape. Don't short shift on upshifts or the quick shifter will kill the engine. MH member "HDA" can confirm.

Let's be honest Bevo. That bike could have spontaneously combusted and you would have blamed it on some 3rd party Honda uses to supply the culprit component.

Dunno which one is more probable, given Honda's reliability and all

In all seriousness, sorry the SP2 didn't work out for you OP. Glad to see you took the hit in stride. As nice as the SP2 would be that Ape isn't a slouch itself. These first world problems we have

The Ape is a beast and has the wow factor that Honda never has been able to duplicate with there street bikes. Speaking for myself here as I know there are a few Honda fanboys that would argue the pount. I have ridden the older V twin and newer V4 on the track and loved them both. I took a CBR1000 in a trade and rode it once for a few sessions and quickly sold it. I'm sure it would have been reliable but it just did not inspire passion.
