SHNF Workday Sat 10/14

We are mowing and surveying on Saturday, our goal is to have the trails opened for the Nov 3-5 camp/ride

From 8am-12pm, Debbie & Steve will be out there mowing the camp/picnic area of Kelly's pond in the morning, if you'd like to come and help, that would be great.

From 12-5pm, We plan to survey the West side trails, specifically the Big Loop trail with focus on erosion, unsafe exposed roots, and inspection of sediment traps.

Material List: smart phone w/ramblr app, dirt bike, fuel, and water

If you plan to volunteer, please let me know or rsvp on the BODB meetup calendar.

Thank you in advance.

What is this 11/3 camp/ride? If you are there I may reschedule my knee surgery so I can go if you promise to autograph my bike.

That looks like fun. I wouldn't be able to stay all weekend. May be able to come ride on Saturday though.

Sorry Buelligan. Kids keep me busy on the weekend and have a newborn at home. I haven't even ridden any motorcycle in over 4 months. If I am able to get one day of free time it's going to be to ride.

Totally understand your problem Brandon, but if everyone has a problem and we get no volunteers, we won't be riding the forest for a lot longer than a 4 month layoff. If the volunteers don't fix the trails, no one will fix them and no one rides, bottom line. One day of volunteering might go a long way to get you riding quicker though, just a thought to ponder on........

Sorry for picking at you Brandon, guess I should explain better. Reason we need the volunteers now is if we can ever get a handle on the water sheds running the water away from the trails, and fix all the bridges on the MUT to sustain heavy water and erosion, and reroute to higher ground the trails that continuously hold water after rains, there is a very good chance the trails will NOT be closed as much as they have been in the past few years. This takes all of us volunteering now to make this happen so in the future we can ride a whole lot more. Hope this explains what I'm trying to get over to everyone. Don't mean to be rude or anything, just dang tired of the SHNF trails always being closed lately.

Regardless, we appreciate any help we can get.. John, Steve, Debbie, and I will be at Kelly's Pond tomorrow, all and any who can help is appreciated.. Curt volunteered to fuel us for the day (yummy food) , I'll let Debbie decide to accept or try to delay that offer (if we have a bigger volunteer day where it might be of greater help) ... thank you to all MH'ers who want and are trying to help!
