Shoei & Revzilla Warning

This was an exceptionally hard lesson to learn. According to both Shoei and Revzilla, when you purchase your helmet on sale, it has been discounted to "reflect the shorter lifespan of the helmet ."

I have numerous Shoei helmets and have always considered myself brand-loyal to Shoei. That is a thing of the past. In 2015 I purchased an expensive Shoei Hornet on Revzilla, just put on sale.

In the middle of a seven-day trip, my visor blew off. I tried unsuccessfully to locate it. I mistakenly thought that if I contacted Shoei that they would direct me as to how to get a replacement visor. One I would have certainly paid for myself. Instead, they said this is "something to bring up with your dealer and is not a Shoei issue." Shoei provides a 7 year warranty from the date of manufacture or 5 years from purchase, whichever is sooner. However, the sticker in the helmet says 071113. According to Shoei, that means it was produced on November 13, 2007.

This is crazy, right? So I reached out to Revzilla as Shoei is stating that Revzilla sold me an "old" helmet with no warranty, and their response? We "side with Shoei."

I have been riding for many years and have never purchased anything but a Shoei. I don't know what they gained through their response to my question about a replacement visor, but I do know that they lost a customer - permanently.

The lesson - check that sticker in the helmet as soon as it arrives. Your "good deal" could be just an expired helmet.

That really sucks about the helmet. i hope you can find a replacement visor and parts online. I do know that all helmets have a shelf life though and as the age they lose the ability to protect like they did when they are new. I think most tracks have separate requirements regarding how old a helmet can be for use, although they are not all rigorous about checking. Wish you luck and I encourage you to think carefully about a replacement as your safety is the most important thing. Might be better off with a less expensive brand as you could replace it more often but I know everything is a step down from Shoie quality (even my carbon Fiber Modular, $800.00 AGV, while awesome and super light, is nowhere near Shoie build quality, but I do love it.

I don't really see your issue with shoei. The visor blew off so it isn't covered under warranty. You stated that you would happily pay for one. It seems that you are upset because shoei told you to go to a dealer. This is very common practice.

You called revzilla and they said they side with shoei. But sided with them on what? That your visor isn't covered under warranty? That's fair since losing a visor isn't a warranty item. Or that you should contact a dealer? That's also fair.

I understand you being upset because *revzilla* sold you an old helmet and it appears they didn't state it was an older helmet with no warranty. But the warranty info from shoei according to your post is clear. So perhaps you're upset with the wrong company.

It seems that if shoei gave you the correct date and revzilla sold you an out of date helmet there might be recourse with a CC company, but I'm not sure how that works with safety gear. If you contact your CC company please let us know what happens.
