So, I sold the sailboat to get a new toy

Poor "cheapest moto possible..." thread followers, you just THOUGHT you knew what I was getting

Below is the "story" of the purchase, as it was out of the norm........

So, for a while now I had been looking for the cheapest motorcycle to ride possible, so I was even looking at scooters...... I had my eye on a few things, but they were just out of my price range. (I don't want a bike note and what was in my price range didn't really suit my highway riding habits)

A three months ago, Ek had picked up an FZ1 and pretty well modded the thing. Ek is known for taste and buys quality bikes(okay I'm talking out of my here but he seems to know his stuff), and takes VERY good care of them. He freshened it up even more than it already was with a new Set of Q3's (I'd never pay that much for tires so that's great)
I hadn't met him at that time, but he was nice enough to leave the PCIII on and some other things that could be useful on the track, even though I was shopping for a scooter initially.

He,like me has seems to "flip flop" on decisions and after he bought this thing and modded the out of it, he put it up for sale a few weeks ago and reduced the price just a couple days ago.-https://www.motohouston.com/forums/s...d.php?t=351092
https://www.motohouston.com/forums/s...d.php?t=355036

I knew I wanted it, I was just too cheap to pay his already low asking price...I also got banned shortly after his price reduction, so I ended up finding him on craigslist and told him my position and he was nice enough to hold it for me. (Recurring fact here, is that's he's such a nice guy) I Came over the next day after taking the money from saving.

Yesterday, I left work early and hopped in the versa to go get the bike.
Ek was nice enough to let me leave my Nissan versa there at his house while I rode the bike home, since we did all this rushed during business hours to lock in both of our flip flopping decisions. In the rush to buy the bike, I could only find my helmet and these super cheap bit riding boots. I had to make due since these were unusually bike purchasing circumstances.

Toe met me at cycle gear on his ducati multistrada that he had just got not too long ago (very nice bike btw) and Helped me find the cheapest jacket possible, since I apparently needed one and couldn't find my old one. He and I got to catch up on local MH community gossip.
When I got there, he mentioned that the previous owner was Ek and he took care of the bike. I told him I knew and that Ek even put in some fresh oil for me while he was waiting on me. I also told Toe about how I got "lost" for like 30 minutes when I "test rode" The bike.

(disclaimer: this is not me)

IT's a BEAST! I'm pretty sure the thing will wheelie, unlike a scooter. Also, I found out, I'm not "man enough" to really use full throttle acceleration for more than a few seconds on this thing in any realistic street scenario.

Anyhow, I needed to fill up after leaving, so I stopped at the nearest gas station. While filling up, I realized that just while "test riding" I went from two fuel bars to "low fuel". I remember Ek mentioned that I had JUST better get used to the fact this was no SV650 and it likes to consume more gas. He let me know that he had gone a tooth or two down the sprocket as well and made sure I realized the speedo was off as a result. I said sure, and he gave me a blessing and off I went, Nissan Versa and Ronald Reagan mannequin left behind in his driveway. (You meet the nicest people on a MH)

For dinner, I rode down to the SE side of town and got even more lobster sunburnt to fit in. I was thinking wings and I'm like
"hmmm...what about that place with the food and half naked waitresses? OH wait there's some group I got banned from having a meet there tonight! perfect!" It also just so happened that toe was going too, so worked out great.

Once I walked in, I knew I was right at home. A whole bunch of to hang out with, T&A, and motorcycles. It was in that very parking lot, talking to bumblebee that it dawned on me why I flip flopped from going to a scooter to an FZ1.
See I think the mentality has overtones of "lets do everything the cheapest way possible" and a motorcycle is essentially transportation. I kept trying to make riding somehow cheaper than a car and it's just not, there's no practicality in riding. Not even on the scooter. SO what was it that kept me wanting to buy something with two wheels?
Then there was the "AHA" moment. Deep down I just want to ride a motorcycle and you know what bro? If I'm going to ride a motorcycle it may as well be an FZ1 I picked up for the same price as a scooter, gas guzzling and tire eating be damned!(sorry I know the last paragraph broke the theme of this thread but I had to put that out there)

Here's my sunburnt(remember I had to ride home and then to cycle gear in a t-shirt at 1-6p.m.) at the meet in the blue:

(no mullet)(side note who is that dude next to me? Dude's a freaking monster, I'm 6'4"...)

It was HOT AS the entire day. I got sunburnt as in what seemed like no time. I mean LOBSTERED OUT bro.

I made it home around 9:30 and I can't tell you how awesome the A/C in my house felt. The bike was great and gave me zero issues. The edges of the tires we're already a lot more roughed up that I'll probably ever get them, and that's okay.

Thanks again to Ek for the great buying experience and hospitality! And for dealing with my judaism!

The FZ1 will defiantly wheelie lol. Have rocked some pretty long wheelies on one and also slow ones in a lot. Stock sprockets. Friend of mine had one and he asked the same question, it does indeed wheelie lol. As long as you respect the throttle you will be fine, glad to see you on a bike! Now you are one of the riders!
