slow down~ fellas
|
oil sitting in the engine is not gonna do anything. The humidity will be gone next time you fire it up.
I have the same scenario since I have a couple of vehicles to rotate throughout the week, I just change them all together every 6 months with Rotella T6~~!! lol (here we go again~ lol) |

THERE IS NO NEED TO YELL THIS EARLY IN THE MORNING
with that aside, I would go by the book. Sometimes I change earlier than that, because I feel like it is necessary. |

Wrong! I go by mileage and time. On my bikes I do depending on how I ride and mileage to time. On My cars I do 3months/2800-3000 miles. If a vehicle is just sitting and not being driven/rode at all then about 3 months is the longest I would go to not change the oil. Especially in Houston's humidity! |

This is what appears to be funny. Before, they all recommended 3k mi / 3 mon interval. But nowadays, since there are eco-issue, they all increase the interval to 5k/5mon. Funny thing is, the oil is the same as what we have been using all these years. They claimed the engine design is different....I doubt it. |

Engine tolerances have tightened up. Many engines have a recommendation of 7500. These days. Most new vehicles are now coming with 5w20 rather than the old 10w30. I would say something has changed.

I do this for a living.... I see oil life everyday when I change oil sometimes that doesn't even have 3,000 miles on it from a commuter and it's black as .... And age turns oil Sluggy when it just sits Marketing hype or whatever... Fact is fact. And oil is cheap, motors are expensive. |

5k-7.5k mile oil change intervals usually have an asterisk next to it saying something like "under ideal conditions. adverse conditions such as high temp, dusty environment, stop and go traffic and/or frequent stops may require shorter oil change intervals."

my honda odyssey has an oil change reminder, it comes at 7000mi, whether i take long trips or city driving
and yeah it uses 5w-20, i used Mobil1 bikes, i'll do around 3000mi mainly because the engines are run up higher RPM wise, and the becuase of the wet clutch particles |

Yeah and BMW cars say go 15k.... Oils cheap motors are expensive, it's people that don't care for the life of the vehicle that argue oil life. |

i care about the engine life, i also follow Honda's recommendation w/ a bazillion engineers vs a mechanic on the interwebz
this is not some honda service writer telling me to change it ever 7k, this is a built in function of the van. but thats why i use m1, JIC the 7k is bit long for oil change. most people use reg. oil vs syn oil for 7k......... |
