BDMPASTX injured in accident

Regards Team:

Just read this on the TWT web site:

Quote:
Brian Montgomery was hit by a car turning into a driveway while riding the Pig Trail in Arkansas on Thursday.
He is in serious but stable condition. Injuries include broken bones - compound fracture of pelvis in two places, bruised lungs and other internal injuries. He is paralyzed from the waist down. Second surgery scheduled for tomorrow to fuse his back so he can be relocated closer to Houston.
He's a regular on H-I.com

:eh: :eh: :eh: :eh: :eh: :eh:

Maybe you guys remember his signature:

Prayers for his fast recovery...

Re: BDMPASTX injured in accident

Chris and I just got in from Arkansas. Here is the whole story, as I know it to be, regarding Brian.

1. The T-4 vertebra (somewhere close to between the shoulders) was a "burst fracture". To describe the injury to Brandy and me, the Neurosurgeion said, "It looks like someone hit his back with a sledge hammer. The bone was basically disintigrated." He reiterated several times that they do not expect Brian to regain any use of his legs. Brian is paralyzed from the nipples down, and the doctors said this is permanent. They will know for certain once they go in to fuse the bones and can actually examine the spinal cord. However, Brian has no feeling and no involuntary reaction from his chest down.

2. Several ribs were broken - no count on how many. One lung was punctured. With the back injury, the back of Brian's lungs were bruised. His lungs have severe contusions inside and out. That is the reason is and has been on a respirator.

3. Brian's pelvis also "burst". During this, there was a tear and puncture in the . A pelvis injury bleeds very much, so Brian is losing lots of blood, therefore receiving lots of blood.

4. His right wrist was broken in several places, requiring surgery and 4 pins. The orthopedic surgeon explained this all to us, but said that he believes that he has the bones set with just the 4 pins and will not require further surgeries on this as he first told us.

5. Brian has NO injuries whatsoever to his head.

6. He has very few minor scrapes on his right leg, and two of his toes are bruised.

7. Brian NEVER lost consciousness from the time of the impact until they sedated him at the hospital to put in the breathing tube.

All of the doctors speak to us of what will be happening in the next few days, but they always say that we have to get Brian thru these next few days - he's still in very critical condition and has multiple life-threatening trauma.

Yesterday, Brian was aware and communicating by nods and hand squeezing. He was fighting the breathing tube the most. It was a struggle holding his arms down and calming him down to quit fighting.

Good news about the respirator though, they are trying to ween Brian off of it since he is able to breathe on his own. He was breathing on his own for 1 hour and 40 minutes today! GREAT JOB BRIAN!!!!

Brandy said Brian was very awake and aware today. He was even in pretty good spirits, considering what he's going through.

One of his sisters was teasing him about his haircut. Of course, Brian can't keep "quiet" about this, even though he can't talk right now. So, he flipped her off!

During some conversations of people in his ICU room, he discovered that Brandy had started smoking again at the accident site. He had Brandy called to his bedside and shook his fist at her, letting her know that he did not approve. Then he flipped her off! She told him to give her a break, but he shook his head and mouthed, "No break!"

Mushy, girlie stuff, but first thing this morning, Brandy told Brian she loves him, and he was able to tell her he loves her. He told her several times and even blew kisses to her. Sorry guys, but that's a very big deal to us girls.

His back surgery is being delayed for a while, because he has developed an infection from the tearing and puncture. The doctors expected this, so they were prepared. They will go in the same incision from Friday night and clean out his abdomen area again. He has been and will remain on antibiotics to fight this infection and possible infection in his puntured lung.

Brandy is keeping in touch with me and has asked me to post this stuff. She really truly appreciates everyone's concern, prayers, calls and visits. Yes, Brian needs support, and he has that with Brandy and his family and friends. Brandy also needs that same support.

If anyone wants to send cards or get together and send a group card, feel free to let me know and I will find out where we can send things until Brian gets out of ICU.

From my understanding, Brian will be in that hospital at least a month before they can even consider transfering him anywhere.

The staff - everyone from the office staff to nursing to doctors - are WONDERFUL. Brian was life flighted to a full fledged trauma center. They know what they are doing. I have no concerns for his welfare at all as far as the degree of care he is receiving.

I will be happy to share information with anyone, just e-mail, PM, or phone me.

I WILL NOT post the situation of the accident. I will talk to you personally, but I do not feel that is an appropriate thing to post. If Brandy feels it needs to be public, that is her choice.

As Brian's situation changes, either for the good or bad, I will post as Brandy sees fit. So far, she wants everyone to know everything so there will be no shocks or surprises.

Again, ALL of your concern is greatly appreciated by Brandy and Brian's family.

This week marks a very trying journey. 5 years ago this week, was the last time I was able to do alot of things. One major one was my passion to ride. I've come a long way since that fateful day. I still struggle with the complications on a daily basis but I keep pushing on. I try to do new and exciting things all the time. I have lost a lot of "friends" but also gained some new ones. I miss those people I used to call friends and I wish I could have them back. I still have a huge passion to ride again. Nothing has filled that gap im my heart. The passion is so strong. I may return to the track one day, who knows.

I have accomplised a lot since those 5 years. I have built a custom truck that I take to shows. It was featured in last months Truckin Magazine. Link to it here: https://www.truckinweb.com/features/1...tan/index.html

I have had the chance to ride at the MX park on my 4 wheeler. Its the closest thing I could get to riding on 2 wheels. I even got to ride it on MSR Houston.

I got married to a wonderful woman that I love dearly.

And now, we are trying to have a baby through IVF.

So for now, life goes on. I survived because I was dressed head to toe in safety gear and had a little luck on my side. I hope that all of you that read this take note and suit up cause you never know if or when that may happen.

For more of my story, you can read it at www.bdmpastx.com

Thanks for listening.
