Smart limits does turn off calls and texts.

What about school or everywhere outside my house?

Again, I just want them to be able to text and call the wife and I. Nothing else.

School WiFi is very limited. Other than that I donít worry about it. Takes to much energy to be that controlling.

We lock our sons samsung and it will only allow him to call or text emergency #'s which both myself and my wife are marked as such in his phone.

I am surprised an option isnt readily out there. Well, not really. We are asking for a dumb phone in an age of smartphones, in a society where 8 year olds staring at their $900 phones during dinner is socially acceptable. (not that i'm totally innocent )

If you don't want to root then?

How old is your kid? If you get them one of those (kid phones' you'll end up replacing it very soon. They all suck. If you can get them a cheap/free phone there are a lot of really free/good cheap ones out there that doesn't allow your kid to be there laughing stock of the school. Get an Android phone, screentime app (lock/unlock any/all apps) and life360

WHAT IF your kid had NO Phone??? I sure as ain't worried about providing my kids up to date gadgets so they don't get laughed at...they'll be lucky to get my hand me downs....and I use the out of a phone. I'm on my 2nd smartphone since 2011 (and only b/c the 1st one landed in the bay)....yes, I even waited a few years to retire my flip phone....they gonna hate me (and I'm cool with that )

you're right, I skimmed the thread initially....I still say give 'em the ugliest non smartphone or silly GPS device. The objective is teaching them a lesson and consequences for misbehaving, bad grades, whatever... right? Make it sink in....give the crappiest, ugliest, "make funny of me" device and maybe they'll learn. Those are my thoughts, but my oldest is only 5 so take it w a grain of salt.

girls and their iPhones. My 2 boys have androids which I can do a more customizable lock so that some apps lock and some don't. My girls iPhone is buggy with the Screentime app and sometimes LOCKS EVERYTHING which I don't want because I still need her to call or text me for emergencies. Apparently haven't a non iPhone isnt cool for girls.

My son is the same way, these kids HAVE TO HAVE an iPhone... UGH. I even told my daughter I'd subsidize her buying an android. lol

She still paid full price for the iPhone.

apparently they're trying to outsmart us.

But my sons rather have full capabilities of an Android and risk being locked on some apps instead of the buggy iPhone that can fully lock up the phone! It's happened before and my daughter had to wait for me to get home from work!!
