Any “title” experts here?

I’m having an issue titling my bike because the guy I bought mine from signed the title but never transferred it into his name, now I can’t get ahold of him. I went to the title place once, and they told me that if I can get ahold of the guy that it is titled to, and have him fill out an affidavit of fact showing I am the correct buyer, and he sign it, I will be good. The problem is I don’t know exactly what the affidavit needs to say. He is in Texarkana so I don’t want to keep going back and forth with paperwork.

Right now u cant do anything about it in harris county. They are all closed.

2 options:
1
Waste a bunch if time tracking down the original owner... to sign a paper.

If u do find him and he agrees... u COULD have him get a duplidate title for u and have him sign it and tear up the original.

Opt. Just do a bonded title. Will cost u about $100 more than a normal title would. U do t have to chase a guy around begging him to help u out.
In short.
Go to dmv
Go to bond
Go to transfer.
U will need to have it inspected ans ins. If u want to get plates.

Again all harris county is closed for now.

I have already located the original owner and he is willing to sign the paperwork I send him. I think getting a new title would be too much for him. I know Harris is closed. I think last I saw it is supposed to be until the 11th unless that Hidalgo extends the stay at home again.

Cool if he is willing to help u thats awesome.
I cant recall the form off the top of my head.
Be sure he is willing to give u a copy if of his DL.

Option 2 (with seller) from the dmv. Do a duolicate title. At the bottom it says who to give a copy to and put ur name there. He will sinmgn this and u will get a duplicate title costs $7.

Man, that sucks! I know the feeling though.

It's really important that everyone learns the proper protocols when purchasing something like this. I always have a folder that has a few blank copies of Bill of Sales (BOL) and 130-U forms. It's also good to keep a copy of both forms completely filled out so you can reference back to, in case you forget what needs to be filled out in the future. I highly recommend everyone go to: https://www.txdmv.gov/motorists and read up.

Definitely listen to albertinhouston

I wouldnt say i've been through the ringer... i use this to help me get a better deal up front. ;-)
Since i know the back way around it, it opens up a niche that alot of people pass on. Translation better deal.

Like flip said a little reading goes along way.

That's a long shot. Not all notary public people have knowledge in that field. They are only able to validate paperwork and most of the time it's real estate related.

OP should read the steps listed on the TX DPS website and understand what needs to be done on his/her own, otherwise they'll never know the right or wrong way to file their paperwork.

Is there any point, due to a bikes age or customization, that you don't have to get inspection or registration in Texas? I've read up on it but to me it seems vague.

It really depends on how you present it to them. I was told, If the paperwork clearly states that it is a (example) 1948 Harley, then that is how it will qualify. If the paperwork states that it is a custom build, but the seller "says" it's got Harley parts, well that is more tricky and then you are subject to their interpretation of the verbage of the paperwork.

From what I was told in 2014, classics are +25 and qualify for reduced fees, but are still subject to safety inspections for road use. You can bypass the inspection, but you will have to confirm it is a 'showcar', track driving milage, and aquire permits to move the vehicle from one location to the next... This was a PITA when we did this for our 69' Roadrunner. If it's a classic, it's really cheap to get it on the road, granted it passes all the safety inspections

Well, I sold the bike in question and disclosed the issues to the buyer. I’ll let it be someone else’s problem.

Im actually in a better position now. I got what I had in the bike and was able to buy one in better condition, with less miles and didn’t lose anything in the deal.
