Finished build 79 xs650

Sharing my recently finished minimalist build of my Yamaha xs650.
79 with tci ignition, kick-only, no additional electronics/gauges. Just head and tail lights. Keihin CVK carbs properly jetted for the pod filters and open exhaust. Chopped the rear hoop a subtle 1” and custom hand-laid fiberglass seat pan. Internally dropped front forks 3” and added a nice fork brace. One of my funnest bikes to ride and favorite build so far.

I dig it.

Do you have a build thread on it? Take any photos during the build?

Plan on doing one once I finish up the wiring. Just ordered a molex plug kit. Will link to it once that's done.

It's surprisingly quieter than one would expect. Definitely easier on the ears than my old 600rr with full exhaust.

Quick update: Re-wired with molex connectors and fuse panel. Re-doing the brakes with stainless line, drilled rotor, and 4-pot brembo. Then finally ek o-ring chain and new sprockets.

Very nice!

What’s the end game? Planning on keeping and riding or flipping?

I have an '82 XS650 and I'd be interested to hear some details on the electrical system mods.
Is the ignition original?
