welcome. and search the site. this topic has been discussed more than enough times. take the advice for what it's worth, and remember, this is your first bike, not your last.

suzuki drz 400. or some type of dual sport. i guess its trendy to call them motards or whatever these days. but they started out being called dual sports. those bikes are made to be dropped and perfect for learning the ins and outs of motorcycles. plus when you move out of a drz, you can strip it down and have an awesome trail bike.

Welcome to the family.
Come to one of the larger meet and greets and you'll see an array of sportbikes there; most importantly, a lower cc bike will not take away of the fun of riding; It will infact never reach the potential most of us can put to it. It will however not buck or bring out a rear tire while you're learning the feel of the throttle etc when in a corner or a panic situation. Above all, never ride outside your limits and always wear your gear. |

back on topic... i got a 600 after my MSF as my first bike, and i can honestly say that it took 500-1000 miles of houston city driving before i felt comfortable at the reins. keep that in mind. are you willing to be riding a machine that is above your skill level for that many miles? that's a lot of room for something out of your control to happen. my .02 |

Thanks for all the advice guys nice to see an active forum for houston based motor sports lol. After reading alot and talking to people i know who have rode for years i'll probably chase down a used ninja 250 to start off and get my bearings on a bike and then sell and up the ante a bit. Where is a Training course taught near here? and which one can make me not have to take the driving course at the dmv>???
