Mounting Motorcycle Tires in
I just called Cycle Gear, they told me it's 25$ PER TIRE if I buy the tires from them, and 50$ PER TIRE if I don't. I remember a couple of years back, I think they told me the mounting is free if I buy it from them. Are those prices normal? Because they seem like high prices to me just for mounting tires.
Where do you guys get your tires mounted? Is there any other option than Cycle Gear? And do those prices seem normal? How much do you guys usually pay? Thanks. I'm near the Galleria area, if that helps. EDIT: Anyone know how much they charge at Motorcycles Unlimited? |

Yeah...Cycle Gear went up last year. Texas Yamaha is a little cheaper. I seem to remember Motorcycles Unlimited being the cheapest here...with the exception of guys with their own setups that'll do it for beer.

$25 is a GREAT price for changing tires...(on the bike)
especially on those poorly maintained POS bikes that have stripped, corroded and frozen caliper bolts, pinch bolts, axel bolts, plus dirty rims. but if the rims are off the bike cleaned and brought in with new tires, thats a quick enough change...but then you have to consider their liability. As you know businesses need to, and are designed to make money. and therefor that price is still not bad. Too bad you don't know anyone that has something like the No-Mar Tire Changer in their garage, that can just whip it out 24/7 for what ever price they feel like charging. ![]() |

I never really like Cycle Gear. I saw in another thread that it's 15$ per tire from Motorcycles Unlimited, is that still the case? Does it matter if you buy the tire from them? And does that include balancing?

Haha. Yeah. Only reason I used to let Texas Yamaha do mine was because they have a touchless machine and I didn't want to screw up my Powdercoat. Pretty sure I'll be spooning my next set on, now that those rims are gone.

Several people on here have complained about them messing up the paint on the wheels.
I deal with K's Motorsports off of 59 north. Shane (Service Manager) has always taken care of me. One of the mechanics (Steve) over there helped me when I was a 17/18 yr old punk back in the House of Wheels days. Great guys.... |

Now if you wanted to go whole-hog: HF tire changer - $45 HF motorcycle attachment - $40 Wheel Balancer - $50 No Mar Bar - $125 ($140 shipped) So, $275 for a DIY rig for less than the cost of 3 tire changes. I own the No Mar bar, and in hindsight I think the No Scuff Tire tool would be better. It's only $90 shipped, too, so it'd be $225 for that setup. |

I agree.
Thats why instead of "crying" about prices, I bought my own tools, do most all my own work. I used to offer tire changes to members here... but, the ban hammer started swinging' I still have a fairly complete shop at my house thanks to my sons past participation in the CMRA. |

It always shocks me to see price gouging , and that more riders do not learn to do it on their own . You know all you really need is a couple of good tire spoons , old blanket .
You can pic up a static balance stand for $50 . FYI harbor freight machine is not that great . You will need the non marking delrin inserts on it that are not provided by harbor freight . A ZRXOA member use to make them , but not anymore. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Motion-Pro-1...JWu~Nv&vxp=mtr https://www.ebay.com/itm/Motion-Pro-W...FUbKwX&vxp=mtr https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-WHEEL-MO...183161&vxp=mtr |

$20 Off
$40 On Tires sale priced everyday. Mail in rebates from the tire manufacturer available. Also, Dunlop recently started their MAPP program for the online sellers. Now you can purchase Dunlop tires from your local MH sponsor for less than the online stores. |
