Oil Pressure light

Last weekend I decided to uncover my bike ('11 ZX6R) and fire it up for a quick spin after about 2 months of not riding. Immediately after firing it up, I noticed the Oil Pressure light still blinking. So I let it idle for a few more seconds and it did not turn off so i cut off the bike. Then I did a little searching around on the web and some threads said that the oil filter needs to be "burped" after sitting for a while. I'm not sure if I completely believe or trust this........And now I'm really hesitant about firing up the bike again and causing damage to the engine. Maybe the oil pump is shot and not supplying pressure..........anyone else has knowledge or suspicion as to what might be happening......?

Its very true. They are known to lose prime. My kawi did it every oil change. What I'd do is fill the filter up and leave it loose where it would bearly drip and start the motor. It would prime pretty quick, then tighten everything back up.

So on Kawasakis a filter that's already been run can have air introduced into it from just sitting?

Send a message via AIM to JetBuilt
Is there a check valve or back flow prevention device in the filter? If not, is a better filter available with such a device?

Air gets trapped between the pick up and the filter.

Perfect. Loosened up the oil filter, fired up the bike and the light turned off within a few seconds. Thanks fellas.
