Yamaha reveals first 2016 models

Updates for crosser range

The new Yamaha YZ450F

MOTOCROSSERS always tend to be the first bikes to get launched each year – giving buyers a chance to get the latest kit before the start of the next season – and this is no exception with Yamaha first off the mark with its 2016 YZ line-up.

The news isn’t earth-shattering, but the addition of launch control to the YZ450F will be of interest to racer, as will valve timing tweaks that increase mid and low-range power. The clutch and gearshift are also said to be improved, while the chassis is changed to increase rigidity and add 3mm of fork offset.

A bigger 270mm brake disc, up from 250mm, means it should slow better as well as accelerate faster.

The smaller YZ250F gets many of the same changes, while both versions will be offered as limited-editions to celebrate Yamaha’s 60th birthday, compete with yellow-and-black speedblock graphics and an Akrapovic slip-on.

In America, Yamaha has also revealed the 2016 versions of the FZ-09 and FZ-07 (what we’d call the MT-09 and MT-07) with no mechanical changes, as well as the 2016 Bolt and Bolt R-spec (we call it the XV950), again with no alterations.
