Its a petition to disallow federal funding for motorcycle-only checkpoints.

It's a good thing, even though there's not really any issue with it around here I guess its been a nuisance in other areas. The purpose is to check helmets for DOT approval and other "safety items" and they were getting federal tax money to do it. Someone in a suit thinks its a stupid idea (which it is) and sent this petition up the ranks and to the public to gain momentum.

They would have checkpoints, just like they have 18-wheeler checkpoints. to make sure you meet regulations (more to come in the future) and then fine you or take preventative action.

It's not that I mind wearing my gear, but I don't want to waste time sitting at a checkpoint.

if they make check points, they need to make them for everyone. how many are there out there driving on suspended licenses running over motorcycles? loads of people driving around w/o insurance as well. it isn't just motorcyclists that break the law, and seeing that a vast chunk motorcycle injuries occur from dumbass cagers, they are focusing on the wrong group

seatbelts are such a catch 22. they can be wonderful life savers or they can be absolute death traps. no way to tell in any particular situation. helmets on the other hand are just plain ol life savers. I can't think of any down sides to modern helmets

Its easier to oppress a minority than regulate a majority. They cant set up check points for everyone because that would get too many people angry. But by setting up check points for motorcyclists it they can ignore our protests while looking like they are doing something for "the good of the people."

Question for ya'll that don't like to be told to use a helmet or fasten your seatbelt, and have kids.

It is mandated that babies and toddlers ride in a dedicated car seat/baby seat, etc.

I'm sure you all do it, or have in the past (when your kids where young) why is the reason to do it? is it because there is a law telling you to?

In my case is because I use common sense, I know my kid is way, way safer in his dedicated seat.

Then why not use a helmet and a seat belt?

Geez......if your common sense is telling you to use a lid and strap down, what the government tells you is secondary, but it looks like at every turn we gotta find a reason to at the government.

Like my wife when she has PMS....she just looks at me and nitpicks like no tomorrow.
