CDL OR NDT

fun fact my 1st legal w2 job was thanks to motohouston at a Marcos pizza way back when...

Well, I'm currently at a crossroad with my profession. The past 5yrs I've been a NDT tech well, I left it since the local contract ended and she was having a baby. I really didn't want to travel or commute more than I was already. So, I had some family time and completed some projects. Started a llc to trade from es futures but have not found consistency in that to sustain me yet. All my certs have expired rope access, 3T state card but still have my CDL with tankers and hazmat. I'm still fairly young I guess 29 so I'm not sweating a career change. But it seems like all the trucking companies want at least 2yrs experience for insurance purposes and for that I would have to go OTR(over the road) to get it. the one thing I didn't want in the first place. Do yall see something I might be missing from my point of view? Thanks

I got my CDL with tankers and hazmat back in 17'. Started with CR England (which only lasted 90 days), then jumped over to Werner and played with that company for a year and a half. Did the 2 years over the road and then got a short job driving a cement mixer truck (sucks and you never will have a life or time to do anything else). Finally landed a great job hauling equipment for United Rentals and did that until recently when I hung up the keys and went into Inside Sales for them...

So yes, you'll have to put the time in to get a trucking job... for a big company, but you can get into a small company doing short runs locally. Try hotshot companies and/or find an owner operator who needs an extra driver to haul for them

career change commence.

I caught a big break. Just waiting on the background and drug test now. It felt good driving a truck again. (Did their road test) a little rusty haven't been on a truck since 2017. I first got my CDL back in 2015 did 2yrs with Galveston County that was the only thing I had to lean on for this.
