We need to do a better job

Two deaths this weekend that I know of! I don't how it could be done, but I wish the older wiser motorcycling community could some how figure out a way to get the message across that if your act stupid on a motorcycle, on a regular basis, on public roads, that the statistics will catch up to you. All off us have been fools but when started riding back in 1985 I was lucky I had some mentors that pointed out my mistakes, told me their stories, and impressed on me if you want to this for long time you better be smart about it. Now even the most experienced riders will die and I will sight the case earlier this year of the Moto America race announcer Brian Drebber that was on his way to catch a plane to go to a race but hit dear and was killed. Anyway, I think we could do more.

There is no shortage of bad riders just like there is not shortage of bad car drivers. I never saw the appeal of riding like a jackass. To each their own.

Who’s to say these people didn’t already have someone to give them advice. Some just want to do their own thing.

Anyone who street rides understands the risks when you throw your leg over the bike. Anyone who thinks riding is safe is a fool. We do it cause we love it and even though we may not acknowledge it we all know deep down inside the chances and roll the dice.
And when you play stupid games you get stupid prizes. If you're out in the middle of the night riding around..chances are it's not normal type riding.

Good luck. We've been involved in motorcycle safety and training since 1996. The TX Motorcycle Safety Coalition has been working with clubs, organizations, independents, riding schools, police and law enforcement agencies and educators for years trying to get the message out. The DPS, state DOT and Texas Transportation Institute have also tried hard, spent lots of money and used endless dollars to try to get this very message out thru billboards, online messages, mailers, handouts, TV, radio and booths at events .

The message that the folks at MSF and Total Control have been saying for years: "It's not that crash-involved riders didn't know what to do. It's that they did what they knew they shouldn't do." There's no way to save people from their own bad ideas.

The education you want is out there. But we as motorcyclists need to push the ideas that it's necessary to continually train to get better at riding, and get licensed.
