I have seen way too many people fall doing that. They then mess the truck, bike and themselves up. You need to walk it up next to it. I use to use the bikes power and I would walk next to it up into the truck clutching it up. The lower part of the bike sometimes bottoms out and the bike and rider stop and they both go falling down.

I have 2 ramps for loading purposes, one aluminum and one steel ramp . The steel ramp is secured to the rear bumper via straps and the aluminum one i use to walk next to the steel ramp that bike is on and clutch it and front brake control the whole time .
All it took was one time of the steel ramp slipping out as i was almost loaded into bed of truck and almost dropping the bike out the bed of truck that i realized i needed the straps lol , it only cracked my lower fairing thankfully ![]() |

Seems like it's more easy if you are sitting on the bike and riding it. I have no idea how it works and I will never attempt to load any of my bikes with a ramp but walking the bike seems trickier.

when I was young, i used to ride up on a plain old 2x8 into the back of my pickup all the time. one time in college I got a little sketchy and Ill be darned if I could do it after that. Its kinda dumb, I have a truck, but feel like I need to trailer to haul bikes around cause its a pain to get them in back of truck.... getting old I guess.

I only use a wide ramp. That way I can walk it up on the side using the bikes power or ride it keeping feet down on both sides. And only try it going slowly. These videos of people gunning it up the ramp make me chuckle.

! Expensive but worthy if you are going to plan trailering your bike a lot.

I use the wide ATV ramp from HF and I still don't like riding my bike up. Almost busted my several times. Been thinking of lowering the trailer somehow

Wide ATV ramp and sit on the bike, ride it up slowly. No sweat.
Done it a thousand times. Narrow ramp... seen several bikes get dropped. Never with a narrow ramp. Sure an ATV ramp costs $150. Won't seem like much of you drop your bike one time. |

Yep, a tri-fold atv ramp is the way to go. Make sure it is securely strapped to the truck/trailer, it can kick out.
If its going into my toyhauler, I ride it up. If its going into the truck bed, I walk it with power assisted. |

The only way I feel secure about using a ramp, is to park the rear wheels of the pickup truck in a ditch so the tailgate is less than a foot off the ground. That way, the slope of the ramp is very slight, and you can have someone stand on each side of the bike while loading. Usually can just push the bike up the ramp, keeping hold of the front brake just in case.
Only problem is --- how many places have a suitable ditch with the right depth, contour, and surface? |

![]() , even for one of those $300 ramps you would need to use it about 15 times. |
