Leaving the Air Force!!

My voluntary separation just got approved! So, I should be moving to Houston in the July/August timeframe to start SAM. I haven't posted on this forum much, I'm just super excited and wanted to tell everybody.

The Air Force is trying to downsize so they are paying me to leave before my enlistment is up.

cute little tip they wont tell you about right now.
My sons shop was knocked down from 34 to 2....he had to take the separation and "settlement" offer....
Now that he is out, they gave him a few % of disability pension, buuuuut he can not collect that until he pays the 12 k back to the government they gave him upon their early separation. He wanted to be a lifer, they wanted a smaller air force, so at 12 years they opted him out with severance pay or so he thought.

Fortunately I'm not receiving any disability so that does not apply to me. However, in the new PSDM's that recently came out it's against federal law for them to do that so people separating will receive disability AND sep pay. They no longer have to pay it back.

How long ago did he separate?

Someone should forward this thread to my brother. He's 19 and about to go to San Antonio for basic on the 22nd.

I've had 3 other friends get kicked out of the military, 2 air force and 1 national guard.

I just don't think there's a reason for the military to be "hiring" newcomers when there's nothing to do...

If you don't mind me asking, were you going to EAS in this fiscal year?

We can only get out early within the fiscal year of our EAS, all of this of course depends on TIG/TIS.

I don't regret joining the Air Force but after 7 years I'm ready to move on to something I enjoy doing. I would encourage him to join for a couple years. I've learned invaluable life lessons during my time in and met some life-long friends. Living overseas has also opened my eyes to a lot of things outside of the American mindset.

No, my original date of separation was Nov 2015, now it's Sep 2014.

The reason they are hiring is because it's cheaper to have the newer guys. They keep some of the old folks getting that great pay.
