When I go to hit the start button, it makes a thump noise. As if the drive gear from the starter kits out, but then is stuck. Battery is good and fully charged.
Motor is not seized either, we turned it by hand. I don't know what the problem is... hate to have to start taking back off the bike after all the hard work putting it all together ![]() |

which bike is it? If its the HD, the starter jackshaft might not be engaging the starter ring inside the primary. Open the primary and check to see that it moves out and engages correctly and smoothly. DISCONNECT the battery when doing this for several reasons. If you pull the starter jackshaft by hand, it will electrically engage and not only bend the shaft but also likely chew your fingers off. You can bench test the starter.
start with checking for a solid ground. not only your battery but where it connects to the frame. Also some starters will have another ground from the starter. If loose, you'll get crappy draw and also melt the battery terminal. |

If its a new starter & is the one that HD twincam's use, its the same exact starter as a Toyota (corrolla).
Post a pic and I'll find the toyota part number and you can get it anywhere. |
