Not independence. They won a battle against the French. Not much of an accomplishment...

, I'm gonna be unpopular this week on MH.

Yes, we need strong nationality in our country. We should celebrate our awesome history and culture as one of, if not the best, in the history of civilization. No, we should never bow down to threats from other peoples. Our military should be the strongest, most capable on the planet.

But could we not also rejoice in the festivities of our neighbors and share their culture (when it doesn't include smuggling guns, drugs, people and money across our borders, lol)?

The battle of Puebla is a cool thing for Mexicans. And we have lots in common with them. Why not share their pride? (Especially over the French, lol, sorry martin). What's the big deal here? I think everything would be a lot better with the world if we all sat down and had a beer and chilled out - with those groups who are so inclined to do so, anyway, even celebrate their pride from afar. I've got nothing against Mexicans.

(Agree w/ the statement that its just another commercial holiday and most people don't get the real meaning and therefore my point is moot, but , in most of the Christian world, so is Xmas. But REAL people who care should be able to say, 'hey, good on ya')

In Cali, the Supreme Court affirmed a ruling that the American flag could not be displayed in schools during Cinco De mayo....that's the up part. Yes it would be cool to chill out and celebrate our neighbors accomplishments...but everytime someone shows pride for the great USofA, we get criticized and say we are racist and it offends them....
