So have you ever blown off filing your income taxes?

I have a nephew that didn't file for like 4 years. It just tripped me out blowing it off like that. The worse I do is always file an extension. I mean the thought of paying penalties and interest just make me sick. Plus going back and trying to get all that paper work. But obviously alot of people jsut blow them off. Have you or anyone you have known blew them off. If yes, for how long and what happened when you/they finally filed them ie penalties, audit, jail, castration what?

It's only a problem if you owe, not if the gov owes you.

I blew it off for like 2 years but when I filed eventually I got 3 incomes back in one. Only problem when you blow them off you have to snail mail it.

I blew it off once when I was much younger. I owed like $4k. They sent me a letter a few years later. The penalties are capped so it's not like it can accrue into a trillion dollars. I called them said I was sorry and offered to pay a lower amount and they accepted. No big deal.

My buddy was a 1099 and didnt pay for 4-5 years and owed ~100K. It ruined him mentally thinking he was gonna go to prison . It took him several years, lots of lawyer fees and a decreased amount to owe after they went through his whole life with a fine toothed comb. He ended up having to make huge payments but eventually got it taken care of. I think he learned his lesson. This is the same guy who spent $60k in student loans to get a degree in Sociology to become an insurance adjuster.

lol yes. But it's not a co sign it's putting him on one of my credit cards. He's got his staightened out now or I wouldn't have done it. Funny you are so correct he's the one that gave me the idea for the thread.

If you don't owe the government, then there are no penalties for not filing. The interest and penalties are usually a percentage of what you owe. X% of $0 is still $0. However, if you are owed a refund, I think you have up to 3 years to file until the gov't will keep your money.

You should consider the signs. I know you care for him, but I'm seeing a lot of irresponsible behavior.

again all this was in his past. He has really changed. He is a pipe inspector and one time asked to use my conference room so he and his fellow employees could group study to get my certs and better pay. I think he's up to 44/hr.

and besides I just got his card in the mail and I put it in my safe.

He must be a contractor(1099) if he is making $44/hour unless he is working in refineries.

I wait until the last day of the extension. This way they have already met their audit quotas.

There's like a 5 or 3 year time period lol. Well, unless you are committing fraud.
