So, I've been thinking about doing some modifications that will enhance the look in a more sport bike way. I would like a modernized retro bike, but retaining the original look.

I had the idea and had to visualize it... so I took a picture and edited it in my standard desktop app. I've attached the unedited/edited pic for reference.

What do y'all think?

I'm thinking about learning how to form plexi or poly glass and make a custom one-off windscreen for it
I dig the idea of a nose cowl. That quick mock-up really makes it look like it would belong!

Maybe something like this could be modified to work or used as a mold to make one that would fit around the rectangular headlight or maybe you could swap to a round headlight from like a 79 KZ. Just a thought.

There are other options at cycle gear, plus there are some originals for sale on ebay. I just Googled 1983 KZ750 nose cowl and found several options.

I love this thread. My carbs are apart waiting on parts. This never happens. Usually you learn the cool stuff AFTER you put things together

Freaking bike dropped on me today!

I had an idiot moment...

Went to visit a friend today and after leaving his place I realized I had left my gloves there. As I approached his driveway, I noticed my gloves in the middle of the street. I put my hazard lights on, put the kickstand down, and proceeded to walk over to my gloves... As I picked them up and turned to walk back, I saw the bike start to creep forward (due to the vibration of the running bike and the slight slope of the street) and down it went! I ran towards it like a baby falling out of a 2nd story window. I wasn't close enough or fast enough to help cushion the fall. I just died a little inside watching the ground kiss the engine cover, the mirror, and both turning lights.

I wish I wasn't so emotionally attached to this bike, but I am... despite the small rashes on the bike, I am still going to replace the parts as soon as I am able to.

Thought I'd share, even though it was bad news.

It happens. Look at it this way, you have now de-magnetized it, and gotten that out of the way.

When I got my first street bike I was still in high school. Was back peddling out of my driveway and my right foot slipped off the edge of the pavement and into the grass. It was enough to tip me over. I just sat on the bike like an action figure and fell into the grass with the bike in total slow motion. I was laughing and at the same time.

I really wish I could make all my dumb mistakes on any of the other bikes, just not this ol' girl.

The stator cover is pretty pricy and not as common as I hoped. Gonna have to pull the trigger on an eBay item today.

happens. Look at it this way, at least you have the skill and capacity to fix it yourself.

I wanted to update you guys on the speedo cable issue, in case someone has similar problems.

The cable was making a loud whaling noise when the bike was in motion. It would usually start after a hard braking event, or constant hard use of the front brakes.

I removed the cable to make it home without that annoying noise. Once back home, I examined the ends and took mental notes on which side plugged into the front wheel and which side plugged into the gauge cluster. After marking the end of the cable housing where the cable slides in/out, I pulled the cable completely out. It was for the most part, decent looking, but the grease was black and hardly any on the cable. I cleaned it thoroughly with a terry cloth and plunged it into the cable housing a few more times to see if there was anything restricting the movement. After the cleaning, I inspected the cable for frayed wires, kinks, and possible breaks. Everything looked good, so I laid the cable on a flat clean surface (emphasis on clean, you don't want debris getting mixed in with the grease and you want a surface that is easy to clean because the grease is messy stuff) and applied a generous amount of grease to the cable, smearing it nicely with my fingers. I used wheel bearing grease btw (standard multi-purpose synthetic grease) because there is a lot of rotational movement in the cable housing.

I put everything back together and went for a ride. No more noise

Hope this helps someone one day!
