Is the original gasket metal or a fiber composite?

Doesn't look like you have any local shops, as far as googling something. Closest would be Lubbock... Their site: https://lubbockgasket.com/

I'm a machinist so if you would answer my questions I might be able to help.

Ive never done anything with head gaskets other than exact matches replacements.
my concern is the indention that goes around the piston hole. Does that really need to be there??? here is an example of what i'm talking about. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/c...SABEgLp1fD_BwE |

I can't blow up the picture but most fiber gaskets have a "FIRE" ring molded into the gasket to prevent combustion gases from eroding the gasket. Why I would recommend a copper gasket. Would be relatively easy to machine with a sacrificial 1/4" aluminum plate clamped on top. You would need some copper the correct thickness. Possibly available from Grainger.
