Well, I think I can say I'm finally finished cleaning this girl up!

Carbs have been gone through and cleaned with semi-surgical style. Added an inline fuel filter, a shut off valve, and new rubber hoses. I also deep cleaned the inside of my filter box and washed the velocity stacks clean.

Crossing my fingers it will roar in happiness tomorrow...

Not gonna be that who fires their bike up late at night and revs it like I'm about to race someone from a dig

Not only idling, but she can sing sweet notes! got lungs on her!

It was a little getting use to... Skinny wheels gave quicker response, so I didn't feel as sturdy as I do on my big liter bikes. Also, the power is not as strong as I expected. Maybe it's because it's a 750cc, but I thought the pull would match the awesome rumble this puppy makes! Has a really good power band at 7k rpm through 10k rpm. I was doing 90mph on the freeway and it felt like I was doing 130 it is a little sketch I guess...

Took it to the DMV to get it put back on the database. Been out of the system since the mid 80's... Guess that's why it only has 3,200 original miles. Cost me $135!!! That's actually pretty good, since it should have had back fees from the mid 80's. The friggin FJ hasn't been registered since 2017 and the back fees are $495! I got lucky though... The KZ has been out of their system so long, they had to re-enter the bike back into the system. So no history was in their system, until now.

Afterwards, I took it to a buddies moto shop. He was in awe of her condition an gifted me a correct front fender! Granted, it's red in color, I will rattle can black for now. He also snatched a Bay Area Kawasaki dealer plate frame off an old salvage bike in his yard... Added a new look to the bike, I dig it. But it's all 100% now

My friends moto shop FB: https://m.facebook.com/Brycewalker3145/

Another small tradition I do with new vehicles of mine, is randomly buying a AutoZone/O'reilly's ricer item. Item I gravitated to this time, were skulls for my license plate...lol!

I'm riding it to the shop tomorrow. My friend who gave it to me doesn't know it's road legal and driving.

That exact scenario happened to me 20 years ago. My GS750EN sat for many years. I inquired and past due fees were $800+. Forgot to submit the non op status and $5 filing fee just once and you're screwed. I didn't want to pay the $800 so it sat a few more years. When I finally decided to bite the bullet and pay up it was off CA DMV system. New bike inspection and ~$60 later I had plates. I think 10 years without active registration is when they purge history.

The back fees are ridiculous here in CA. I have the FJ title and signed the back for transfer. Going to wait till I get back to Texas in a few months and just knock it out through our system, which I'm sure will be WAY cheaper than $495.

I still have a few things to work on this bike, but I'm going to save it for later and start knocking out other bike projects! Glad you all are enjoying the progress so far! I'll keep plugging away and posting! Can't wait to get back to Houston and start going to bike meets again

Quick update...

Rode yesterday about 120 miles, before going to the shop. As soon as I pulled into the business park, the front started making a whining noise. Thought it was the calipers. After inspecting everything, a few sketchy things were found, that I completely overlooked during my initial maintenance and cleaning. Almost all the nuts/bolts on the left side of my front wheel were loose... Like hand turn loose

After tightening everything, we went through the entire front end. We took apart and reassembled everything! Finally, we found out what was making the noise... The speedometer cable!

Going to repair that today.

Also, my buddy (the guy who restored the bike), got to go on a quick ride on the KZ yesterday. He was super excited to see it and he thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

Needs bigger carb jets though, to wake her up!

Front end bolts are superfluous. Totally not really needed.

Cool stuff,

Could I ask where you got carb kits? Did you just use Kawasaki gaskets and orings?

Asking cause my KZ1000P carbs are in pieces.

I didn't buy a kit. I just took it apart carefully and cleaned it thoroughly. Everything was in great order, just got clogged up because there was no inline fuel filter to begin with.

I was told to call Cycle Gear to get the parts... Which is pretty badass because they are located everywhere!

Found a pretty cool site for parts. They also provide pretty good diagrams with individual part numbers.

Site: www.motosport.com

I found a stage 3 jet kit (Dynojet stage 3 jet kit part no. 2303). Going to further look into the details, but I'm pretty sure this will help with my low end lack of power. The Yoshi exhaust headers are blueing a lot as well.

Has anyone on here installed bigger jets on their carbs? Any pro tips?

Stage 3 would be a mistake unless you have pod filters and a full exhaust. Most require shimming the needle jets. Best left to a professional. I would try to find a forum for that particular bike and look for the various threads on rejetting. As old as that bike is, someone has been there and done that.

This is who I always use. Great instructions and all the drills,shims,jets,etc.. you need for a successful jet swap. You input your modifications and they recommend a jet kit. Customer service is excellent as well. Note that if you use pods on a CV carb you will need to protect the outside pod filters from crosswinds or build internal baffles.

Bought the jet kit from 6sigma! Can't wait to get the parts in the mail!!

So, I've been thinking about doing some modifications that will enhance the look in a more sport bike way. I would like a modernized retro bike, but retaining the original look.

I had the idea and had to visualize it... so I took a picture and edited it in my standard desktop app. I've attached the unedited/edited pic for reference.

What do y'all think?

I'm thinking about learning how to form plexi or poly glass and make a custom one-off windscreen for it
