Anyone recently have carpet installed?

My house just turned 10 years old and the carpet is showing its age. I have 4 bedrooms that I'd need to be redone with Frieze carpet and 8lb pad. 3 bedrooms are approx 11" x 12'6" + closets, and the master is 14x17 + closets. I'd figure 700 total sq.ft including closets as a pretty generous figure.

Pricing is all over the place...saw on CL $1 installed with 25oz carpet & 6lb pad
http://houston.craigslist.org/mad/3804273862.html

And then there's retail price at home depot. Granted I've had good luck in the past finding honest contractors to redo my kitchen granite, backsplash, retexture etc...Any guys you'd recommend? I'm not gonna buy carpet thats gonna fall apart in a year or two, but I don't want to break the bank either.

I do the measurements for the Home Depot Flooring. I can almost guarantee that CL ad for $1/ft, is going to charge you outrageous pricing for furniture removal, tear out, haul away, etc and they prolly won't do the job unless you get those services also.

If you are willing to do all of that yourself, you can get a smoking deal at home depot because that's how they can offer the low install prices but still give you the option to do a lot of the work yourself.

Just got off the phone with the guy...if the rooms are empty, the total charge is $1.60 per square foot for tear out haul away amd install of 25lb frieze and 8lb pad. He would charge $50 per room if he is the one moving allthe furniture out to the living room.

He said the carpet is Shaw brand, and the pad is spill guard 8lb....so im looking at about $1100 total if I move furniture. What do you think Home Depot can do price wise?

As far as pricing, no clue. I have nothing to do with the quoting department. I just draw the blueprints.

But I do know they are always running specials on installs. I see the $27 whole house install for carpet quite often.

Shans did mine for cheap. It was a few years ago. I talked them down to something like 1.30 per foor with the bad padding with plastic on BOTH sides. Same carpet you are looking at

good info....about to possibly need 1350 sf installed. Empty house and I'll pull and dispose the old if it helps the price. Thanks!

Never thought of that. I just figured they had measured wrong.

In my case they cant measure wrong unless they're retarded. The rooms are perfect rectangles, so are the closets...length x width plus a percentage of waste cuts.
