Truncus Arteriosus?

Just found out our unborn baby girl has a rare heart defect called Truncus Arteriosus, with being such a big community I was wondering if any other members have dealt with this condition.

I'm still reading up on it and will be doing a lot of reading to gain more knowledge on the condition.

What is it?

When a person has one large artery instead of two separate ones to carry blood to the lungs and body.

In a normal heart, the blood follow this cycle: body-heart-lungs-heart-body. When a person has a truncus arteriosus, the blood leaving the heart does not follow this path. It has only one vessel, instead of two separate ones for the lungs and body. With only one artery, there is no specific path to the lungs for oxygen before returning to the heart to deliver oxygen to the body

Boston .... there is a childrens hospital there that is top notch. My wifes sister had a boy with a heart defect and they operated while in the womb and then right after birth. It was a rare defect and he is one of the longest living survivors.

Sorry to hear this ... let me see if I can get info on the hospital / doctors.

Baby is due April 6th, but they are wanting to induce a week or two earlier.
And do the surgery the same day she is born or the next day.

Thanks Obed, we are in it for the long run. We're just going to do what we can and hope for the best. She will need to have multiple surgeries throughout her childhood, but I am reading that about 90%+ will survive with the surgery.

Thanks, We were told that Houston has two places, Texas Children's Hospital and Memorial Herman. One of these two places will be more than likely were we go. But we need to talk to a pediatric cardiologist next week some time.

She was diagnosed with the Truncus Arteriosis but after further echocardiograms and pediatric cardiologists they changed the diagnosis to Tetralogy of Fallot + Pulmonary Artresia with VSD.
