RideSmart Rumors

I was at Barber with N2 track day org. over the Thanksgiving weekend and the guys pitted next to me said Ride Smart was gonna partner up with a eastern T/D org. (PRE) I think was the name. These guys where out of New York. I also heard from a couple of local Austin vendors that R/S was gonna ease-up on the classroom requirement. No requirements after lunch. ???

I doubt it... They don't even go to NOLA anymore. I thought after Hartland repaved the track Ride Smart would go back there but nope... no even Hallett... back in the time they use to go all the way there at Barber...
Ride Smart only go to MSRH, MSRC, and COTA. :(

No need to. Why go to those other places when you make it with staying just in Texas?

So you agree with me right? They are most likely not partnering up with anyone, specially up north, to expend their business... like you said... why go to all those places?

I think you guys are looking at it backwards, R/S is not going north, PRE wants to ride CoTA. I have rode with 3 other T/D orgs and none of them had a classroom requirement. If riders start coming down from the north maybe that's when they will ease-up on the classroom req.

We have talked to the TD org about marketing up there for us for COTA.

We are not planning on changing the classroom requirements at this time. Of course, Level 2 has the 2+ stickers that the instructors can use at their discretion for repeat students.

The group they partnered with is EvolveGT. Rode with that group many times on the east coast and they run a great program and they partner with nothing less.

Help me understand why a classroom requirement is a problem in a TD school?

I guess I don't understand why the classroom portion of a track day is an issue either, especially in lvl 1and then even for a portion of lvl 2.. When I first started track days I didnt have access to any classroom time. From my perspective its almost irresponsible to not have classroom time for people just starting in track days.

I think similarly. I've seen over and over the situation where riders are making very sketchy passes, riding erratic lines, and they never get corrected because they're not going to class.

Well, I WILL say that "other" orgs didn't have "classes" between sessions. There were actually LESS crashes from what I remember.

There were, however, several instructors that you could grab to give advice out there.

Depends what is being taught in the class at what point of the rider's individual experience, overall skill level, and even their personality. One size (or class) doesn't fit all.

Working with someone on the track one on one as you observe them while in session with just a few comments between sessions or even even giving them the tail tap for a quick comment versus a "class" is the delta from my experience as both a rider and instructor.

I like the observe and comment approach as did "most" of those I worked with...but some probably would have been better off in a class. It's just different, not necessarily wrong or right.

Yeah man, props to Ridesmart and all the other T/D orgs and track operators, life would suck without them. Of course new rider should have mandatory classroom the 1st year at the race track, doing them a huge favor. BUt, Me myself I'm older now and like to talk in the pits. 65 track days deep, 45 with R/S and 15 of them in L3 now I prefer to ride a SV in I group. Have you ever gone out and forgot your ear plugs, not sure of your fuel level or you didn't check your tire pressure ? I hate to be in a hurry!

Riders meeting, 1st classroom, check the bike and my gear, be safe and have fun. Sounds good to me.
