Hail of a White Water Rafting Trip I had in Colorado with my family

My wife, daughter, son in law, and grandson went to visit my sisters and their families in colorado last weekend. So we decide to take a white water rafting trip(always wanted to do one never have). So we did it in Browns canyon I think with Noahs Ark outfitters. It was about 15 of us I think. Me, my wife, my bro n law, sister and 2 dudes plus 2 dudes that got picked for our boat. Our guide was a really cool spunky 21 year old chick that was really good at rafting and barking orders. Told her she would make a great mom one day.

So half way through the trip it starts sprinkling then raining then hard raining. Then I noticed little pea size hail in the boat and peppering on us. Then the hail started to get bigger and then next thing we know is we all start saying "ow" "ouch"and and then the hail started feeling like someone was shooting paintballs at us because they got to be like marbles and some golf ball size.

The guide says head to shore NOW. So we head to shore and she says run for cover. So we all start running towards any pos tree or boulder we could find. I mean it was like every man for him/herself. So I see a 12 ft or so christmas lookign tree that had limbs all the way to the bottom and scurry in that thing like a squirrel with branches poking me everywhere it was to thick I could only get my head a foot to the base. My legs were still exposed and and my calves and hamstrings were still getting nailed again feeling just like paint but I couldn't shoot back. Finally I started snapping branches and trying to get closer to the base of the tree. I was also getting really cold my hands were the worse because of the hail whacking my knuckles. This went on for about 7 to 10 minutes I have never seen such a long hail storm. I joked once "man I never want to get stoned to death this sux".

Finally it slows down and we start headed back to the rafts. And somebody said why didn't we just turn the boat over. And I said that is genius only if you would have said that earlier you would have been Einstein. I have no idea why none of us thought about that but we didn't. I guess when you are in crazy pain you don't think so good.

My bro n law thought it was a very memorable moment and wouldn't change it for anything. I think he's a nut. So many of the girls and some of the guys had whelps all over their legs.

Other than that it was fun. Have any of ya'll ever been caught in a hail storm without cover?

Sounds like fun. I got caught in a hail storm once that was caused by a tornado when I was a kid. We were playing in my aunt's neighborhood during a rain storm and it starting hailing on us. Looked up and watched a tornado spawn about 200 yards from us. I've never ran so fast in my life. Hid in the basement of my aunt's house and it sounded like a freight train. It tore up a bunch of houses in the neighborhood.
