Yeah! I walked!

On July 14th I dislocated my ankle and broke my fibula. Surgery to repair my torn deltoid ligament two weeks later. I have not walked further than 100 yards since July and that is within the last two weeks!
Last night I decided that I was going to walk 4 miles today.. or high water...which I did this morning. I do not even start physical therapy until next week! LOL
The walk hurt and 4 miles took me 2 hours but it felt good to be mobile again! Gimpy but mobile!

All I can picture is the scene in Forrest Gump where his leg braces fall off.

Run, Forrest!!!

Good to hear, man. I know it's hard, but dont push rehab too hard.

honestly, you're probably doing more damage than good. How long were to be non weight bearing Mr. Blanco?

I tol you at diablo loco dude....broke my ankle back in 03...bad, 4 hour surgery bad...was in a hard cast for 11 months, non-weight bearing. At my 3 week checkup I showed up with a worn hole in the cast. Doc asked how that happened? Told him the booze took the edge off the pain and the crutches weren't very good cue sticks. He didn't find it amusing. 10 yrs later and I now have about 80% mobility in that ankle and it could probably be better had I followed docs orders.

I thought wisdom came with age? Not in your case. lol

Easy, here is the recipe:

10 Bud Light Platinums (6% Alcohol by volume)
1 XR100 with knobbies
A pair of flip flops

Ride XR100 like a drunk fool doing doing left hand circles in a cul de sac till you lowside=

Dislocated ankle
Torn ligament and broken fibula

I gotta side with dbuck on this, trust the professionals and stay off of it. When I broke my femur I tried getting on crutches despite my phys therapist telling me to stay in my wheel chair. Dropped like a rock, tore my ACL and had to have it operated on with my own insurance (broken leg was on the other driver's tab). I still, seven years later, can't bend my knee without pain.
Take it easy, wait for therapy.

having been laid up for almost 4 year one time ... Listen to the doctor but at the same time if you feel like you can do "little" things try it. A small walk around the block then work you way up but dont push it. Doctors get paid to make sure you get well (at least thats what they tell ya lol) No trophy at the end. Therapy gonna hurt like a mother so dont kill yourself now.

Walking hurts like a ! Therapy is going to be cakewalk!
Im walking on uneven surfaces and up and down hills!
ASSUMING I do not myself up before therapy, i should be rather advanced in the therapists view!

not sure if this was posted as sarcasm or not, but I have a feeling your therapist is gonna have a field day with your .

When does therapy start? Already got a PT? I have one I'd recommend out of Willowbrook Methodist. She made me cry a couple of times (not really, but there were times I wanted to).

Next Monday...not in jest. I'm tired of not moving. If I cannot walk tomorrow. I stop. If Im sore but generally ok...I walk again Thursday.
I have to relearn how to walk with a normal gait. The only way I know how to do that is to walk.
As for walking on uneven surfaces, thats no different than PT involving a short trampoline to balance my body weight on.
I know...I am hard headed but i gotta exercise man!
