Local shop to get good gear.
I'm wondering where does everyone go to get gear. I'm currently looking for alpinestars jacket and pants as well as a set of boots. I don't wanna but online because I wanna try on the stuff and make sure it fits. It's hard shopping for my body type seems most motorcyclist aren't 6ft 4, 245lbs .

I go to Cycle Gear or dealerships to try the items on, then go online and purchase them. Cycle Gear will beat any online price from a reputable site, but you still have to pay taxes and that usually bumps the price over what you'd pay online, especially with big ticket items like gear. There's also some new place over off the Beltway on the northwest side that's been advertising like crazy on CL, but I haven't checked them out yet. My guess is they have limited stock and prices are going to be on par with everyone else.

O well thanks anyways. I might drop by there and see if they have the icon stryker rig. I'm thinking of getting one so when I don't wear my full gear I will still have some protection.

He's saying wear a jacket, not a vest. Getting hot is better than losing skin

All the gear, all the time. I don't know if you've been down yet or not but I'm going to assume you haven't if you're looking at a vest. So if you haven't, you will eventually. And asphalt/concrete doesn't play well with flesh. If the heat is an issue you should look into a vented leather jacket or a mesh jacket. At the bare minimum you should be wearing a helmet, gloves, jacket, boots and a thick pair of jeans. Gear is the most important thing aside from good health insurance. Riding a motorcycle is dangerous business, especially in a large metropolitan area. Try to do everything you can to reduce the risk of serious injury. You might gear up and sweat your off 1000 times before your ticket is punched, and you'll be glad you were geared when it happens.

Fair enough. That's why I was leaning towards the stryker rig. It's full sleeves. It's not full sleeve leather but it's something. I was planning on wearing a shirt or jacket over it. Then again unless it's leather u don't get shut for slide time before the material is eaten through. I currently wear the icon sanctuary jacket.

Whatcha rocking Bevo? Sorry if anyone gets offended but I do ask random question when I have thoughts. I admit to being the new guy so when I ask dumb questions just know I'm young and dumb.

![]() But on tha for real down low as you youngsters say ..... Wear a jacket helmet and gloves at the least . Boots are a great addition as well but not everyone wears them . It's your body and feet though , I always wear gear no matter how hot it is ..... I'd rather sweat than bleed as they say . Also as they say "prepare for the slide , not the ride " anywho I'm sure I'll be seeing you around as I randomly pop up all across town uninvited or unexpected ![]() |

Joe rocket Phoenix or similar is a jacket that works very well for summer riding.

Hook 'em!

Today it was a Fieldsheer one piece perforated. I needed it to get on the track and it's not doing me any good hanging in the closet. For commuting I wear a jacket, A* shinguards under my pants, boots, gloves, helmet
