is there really that much mark up?

so i was thinking of getting some monster HDMI cables.

already have cheap ones from amazon ($6), but searching ebay, there are vendors selling $200 cables for like $28 delivered.

now will there be enough diff. to justify $6 from $200 one's, doubt it.

but $6 vs $28, i wouldn't mind spending the extra $

Oh yeah - there is DEFINITELY that much markup. Monster is a lot like Bose. They make a medium quality product which happens to be marketed VERY well. Not that Monster is BAD mind you - just really isn't worth what people sell it for.

BlueJeansCables is one of the better sources in terms of price and quality online. You may want to give them a look.

Bear in mind also that HDMI is transmitting digital information only. As long as it meets the specs to be considered an HDMI cable, and has the right connections on both sides, it doesnt matter if you paid $5 or $500 for it. Seriously. All the sound and picture quality is driven by the decoder on the output side.

Save yourself some money, find an HDMI cable that meets your length and budgetary needs. Spend the serious cash on speaker cables - those DO matter.

Anyone who buys monster cables is not very smart.

They are without a doubt the biggest retail electronics scam ever.

Just goto DirecTron in SW and buy a cheap HDMI cable in hand for like $5

For HDMI cables, I completely agree. The digital signal is either there, and it will be reproduced perfectly, or it's not.

For analog cables, however, shielding and impedance matching is much more important. I have a buddy who is friends with Slash of GnR fame. Slash swears he can hear the difference in cables and he is a monster cable user. While I doubt that I could ever hear the difference, I suspect a professional musician might be able to.

Funny you say that, audiophiles in a blind test could not tell the difference between monster audio cables and coat hangers wire.

http://consumerist.com/362926/do-coa...monster-cables

Also, there is two other possibilities, Slash gets free Monster cables to say that Monster is better, or either Slash is so fcked in the head from so many drugs he just thinks he can tell the difference. But really, as mentioned in the article, the test was performed over a short run, if your running some seriously long cable or you have tons of other cables around carrying high current (on stage maybe) then shielding might be a bit more important. But for some wires between your TV and the Receiver right next to it, not so much.
