My guess if it keeps the water from separating the tank won't absorb it. Completely uneducated guess.

Ive not seen any issues on my YZF450 when I had it with plastic accerbis tank. Never seen expansion on boat plastic tanks as well.

I'd guess it matters what type of plastic is used. Some may be more sensitive than others.
If you ever owned a Ducati with a plastic tank, you'd know all about expansion, lol!
