Question Obtaining 'M' Endorsement Out of State...

So the wife and I are contract working in California. Our permanent address and licenses are Texas. The wife wants to legally ride her motorcycle out here. Instead of physically coming back home for the purpose of obtaining the endorsement, is there a way to do the training out of state without having to change her permanent address and taking the M1 classes here?

Not at this time. TX rules will not allow that. Sorry.

After making many calls to DPS for information regarding this subject, I finally got clarity and good news.

You can get your M endorsement added on your Texas DL, if you are out of state. Instructions are on the Texas DPS website. Please see link below.

Link to obtaining M endorsement (Note: The out of state information is located at the bottom of the page):
https://www.dps.texas.gov/driverlice...clelicense.htm

Direct link for the out of state information:
https://www.dps.texas.gov/internetfo...rms/DL-16P.pdf

The main information is located on page 4 of 8
Quote:
Adding a Motorcycle license to your Texas driver license:
1.Complete out of state/country application (DL-14A).
2.Complete a Motorcycle Safety Course (MSF) course, approved by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
3.Provide a copy of the MSF Completion certificate or card.
4.Submit required fee.
Link to the DL-14A form:
https://www.dps.texas.gov/internetfo...rms/DL-14A.pdf

I hope this helps the next person who is out of state on vacation/temp work and wants to ride legally without having to change their Texas DL info.
