Uninsured motorist coverage worth the money?

We currently have liability coverage on our two scooters in the Houston area and it only costs about $150/yr. Adding uninsured motorist coverage would would cost over $1000/yr.
Is the uninsured motorist coverage worth the money? I have heard that roughly half the vehicles on our roads are uninsured.
Anybody have any experience with this coverage or any stats on uninsured motorists in the Houston Area? Thanks

Nah nobody drives without insurance, especially not in Houston.

Sounds like you should talk to some other agents. As a 25yr old male, I pay less than $10/month for uninsured. $55 total for full coverage w/ $500 deductible. And this is on an 08 cbr1000rr

Yes, considering 1/4 of Houston drivers are illegal and un-insured.

State Farm. They were always higher, but I talked with a buddy and got hooked up with my current agent- they matched progressives price on my car premiums and cut my bike in half. I should add i have no tickets or accidents in 5 yrs

Me either. I've had 2 tickets but none on my record. I really need to shop around. Have fc on an 08 car and 07 truck with progressive also. Only pay 750 for 6 months for those 2. I'm shopping around next week.

But here's the thing.... how much is the bike worth? You said scooter? Is it worth $1k? $5k? It's all in how much you can handle to gamble.

....and I forget, isn't bodily harm a separate uninsured portion? That's the part that could get expensive.
