Facebook vs Career

many of the teachers who are associated with the business world such as, interpersonal communications, ethnics, etc etc

they talk about facebook and how companies are screening their applicants using facebook and how it can affect your chances of being hired. What you put and what you say, is that the companies are using to figure out your personality, work ethics, and other variables that are important to them for hiring employees

I told them that my facebook is set to the highest security and that the only way anyone can see anything is by being on my friends list. But they informed me that they can get into it regardless of the privacy I set.

discuss? has this happened to you before?

Honestly I've heard people say this... but honestly I think its more the tinfoil hat crowd... If you set your profile to completely private... unless they made a fake profile of some hot chick and you accepted the invite... I can't see them being able to do view it... imagine the lawsuits facebook would have against them for stuff like that...

the only thing that concerns me is when you apply to a place most of them make you consent to a background check first... I wonder if they can request facebook release your wall feed or something as a part of that? I have no clue just a thought....

facebook does not have the security encription like, let say. hotmail have

many ppl have told me is easy to get thru. as far as lawsuits against facebook. i would have to check their privacy policy, but as far as i remember, they can do whatever with our pics, that is in the term of service. so that makes me think their policy sucks. the use of facebook is, use it at ur own risk

with the post above, i did set a different name but for some reason, facebook remembers your old name because i was able to find my self even with a different name listed

i never accept anyone that i dont know personally, even hot dont get accepted. also if i just met you for like a few days, your still not going to be accepted

with the security, you can set it up....you have to go to your account setting to activate it. I know mines is because it is HTTPS....instead of HTTP.

when i try to play poker, a warning comes up and tells me that its going to switch from a secure to a regular HTTP and that if i want it to go back into the secure, i would need to log out and back in

i keep all my private unless you are on friends list also, and i dont friend random people.

that being said...if i apply to a company and they hack my and dont hire me i dont care. 1)i dont want to work for people who hack into people accounts like that, and 2) if they dont like my private life and want to judge me on it, they can go to and i dont want to work for those types of people either.

if a company has hiring policies like that and they end up with a bunch of squares who dilegently do their job and the company does well you cant really blame them can you?

and if they flop because they miss out on good people, well that is darwinism in the business world.

A lot of the danger probably isn't your own FB settings, its other peoples' photos that you are tagged in.
