I hate 5/5. Only in America would we have to even mention a holiday for another country. Whats even more sad: pull ten mexicans aside and ask them what the point of 5/5 actually is...............9 will get it wrong.

and funnier than mexicans not knowing what cinco de mayo stands for is america celebrating another country's holiday and THEM not knowing wtf it stands for. ask any american celebrating mexico's holiday what it sands for and none of them know.

Well I wouldn't expect an American to know. However I would expect all the mexicans driving at 45mph on the freeways with Mexican flags drapped over their hoods to know...

Maybe because it is only important for a certain region in Mexico? There is a false believe that 5 de Mayo is when Mexico celebrates their independence, well guess what, it is not.
5 de Mayo is a big celebration in Puebla. It commemorates the battle of Puebla between the Mexican Army and the French Army; in that battle a couple hundred Mexicans were able to stop thousands of French. Nobody talks about what happen in May 8 when the French came back and kicked azz.
As a Mexican, I feel the way 5 de Mayo is celebrated in the US is stupid, just another way to exploit a day commercially, something like Valentine’s day.

I know what 5/5 is, and I agree the way its celebrated here is ridiculous. ALL hispanics treat it as a get-out-of-jail-free day to **** off and be obnoxious.

I disagree, I am a hispanic and don't care for the day nor behave different because of it.
