You in the US like to set things on weekends and , just excuses to get sloshed.

We messicans follow proper protocol and respect actual dates.

All kidding aside, in Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is not a date to celebrate by drinking, but to remember those that died protecting the nation and winning a battle against the French, back then the strongest army in the world.

how about no cops killed or no uninsured people ramming into you on the road way. oh and don't forget might be a good day for the emergency rooms since they could be less clogged. Or more clogged with them going to see their PCP at 12 in the morning after getting into beer drinking fights.

Of course not, I'm a UT grad, not a UM grad

Uh, yea, being a native Texan, I kinda knew what Cinco de Mayo means and is celebrated on the 5th of May and what it represents.

All kidding aside, in Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is not a date to celebrate by drinking, but to remember those that died protecting the nation and winning a battle against the French, back then the strongest army in the world.

Also worthy of note: many people think that Cinco de Mayo is Mexican independence day. Its not. Its just a celebration for a rather pivotal battle in the war for independence.

My conjecture: can you imagine if Americans had a block-the-roads, drape-the-nations-flag-over-our-car, shoot-guns-in-the-air, be-racist-prickcs, drink-till-you-fall-down, invite-all-your-roughly-same-colored-friends holiday for every single pivotal battle we've won throughout the last 300 or so years? We'd never go to work!

Oh, and Cinco de Mayo isn't heavily celebrated everywhere in America. It has devolved into a "beaner pride" day in areas with strong illegal immigrant communities.
