I'd be more concerned with the stresses it places on your truck's frame, than the product itself. That's cantilevered weight, and everytime that vehicle hits a bump, it'll be alot more than just the weight of the bike applying stress to the frame.
In off-roading, some trucks rigged with rear tire carriers, need to have their frames reinforced for this reason. The carrier is stronger than the frame. |

truck frame
It's no problem for the frames. A bike weighs about 450 lbs wet with the 70 lbs carrier or so. Class III hitches are rated for 500 lbs tongue load. Trailers do more than these will.

There's alot more force when that weight is cantilevered, and when hitting bumps, that weight is amplified. Full size trucks = no problem.

So your saying you think this carrier would cause frame issues on a compact truck?

i would trust this for a sport bike. i helped mo (blackwidow) load some of his minis on here and i dont feel confident in how secure it is for a full size bike.

Because my gear, tools, ice chest ,etc, is in the bed. Not enough room and still be able to keep the tail gate up. Plus my bed has a cover so all my stuff can stay dry or not have to worry about something blowing out.
If you don't have the money for a trailer, place to store it, and want to pay for tags, it's a pretty cheap way to get the bike to the track or where ever. |
