Age of Consent

i'm not sure if we've had a thread on this before(i kind of thought we did), but i searched for it and found nothing.

so what's everyone's feelings on age of consent laws?
to quote a great mind of our time, ali g, "do you believe if there is fluff on the , then she is old enough?"
or do you think at 18 people magically become mature enough to have with even really wrinkly, old people?
or something else?

In high school we used to say "if there's grass on the field, play ball." These days I'm pretty protective of my granddaughters. If there is something their Daddys can't handle, I'll kill it for them. The rules are different when it involves one of my own, laws or not.

As a dad I will preach one thing. But when it comes to our laws, quite another. I think it's utter BS an 18 year old lies down with a 15 year old, then the parents get off and the next thing and this poor 18 year old gets the predator label put onto him and has to register as such

I is a BIG Ali G fan. I know the state of tx says 17. laws are really useless in these cases. I know people who weren't mature enough for at age 24. but 17 is, if you had to make it a rule, ok.

At a young age they already know what's going on. You can shelter them all you want but its gonna happen for the most part w few acceptions. I was an acception but not from anything my parents encouraged/or didnt. I just wanted to wait for that special someone. Well, there had been a few of them since then but not the ONE I had been looking for, oh well.

18 is a good rule of thumb since that's the age kids usually embark on their own. Doesn't mean its an automatic maturing age, cuz in college, they'll be dumb before they get smartz

If she sits on a curb and her feet touch the ground then you're good to go!

jkjkjk, but honestly I'm with the law on this one. A line is needed and IMO 17 is a good place to draw it.

I agree about the age, but almost NOBODY waits until 17. And I do think the statutory law is really dumb. I have a cousin in jail right now - serving 10 years- because his girlfriend was 16 (He was 21 or 22) and her parents didn't like it (this was, of course, after they met him, approved of him, and let their daughter date him) - maybe some parents should start taking responsibility for the job they did raising the kid.

The biggest concerns with early age is disease and pregnancy. If neither one happened would starting as soon as you have a "playing field" make that much of a difference? Maturity goes a long way, but the bigger concern for me is kids having kids. I think that the age limits kinda (not always) helps give people a chance to live foolishly with less regrets. Getting some disease or the pressure and responsibility of having kids at an earlier age is not something everyone can handle. As for statutory rape...that realy needs some looking into. Most laws can't cover every situation, and I don't think that every situation should be punished in the same manner....

So you think its ok for a 21-22yr old to date a 16yr old? Huge difference in maturity and responsiblity isnt there?

As a parent, I don't think that I could allow it. Once I had turned the age of 20, I couldn't think of a girl under 18 as a date.

We used to say "If their old enough to pee, their old enough for me.

Now that I have a teenage daughter, it doesn't seem nearly as funny.

I always thought the statutory rape thing was a little unfair but at the same time you gotta have some rules. Maybe it's those rules that help keep us outta trouble.
For example:
I want to go 70 in my car but the sign says 40. Maybe I'll wait a couple miles until the speed limit changes and it's safe to go faster.

The average teenager in The Netherlands starts having two years after the average American teenager, so I'm not sure if lowering the age of consent will do much of anything.

Of course I don't. I will not let my daughter date older than hs boys before she graduates.

And, NO, I don't think 16 year old girls are less mature than 22 year old boys!
