2014 Hunting Season Thread.

Took my son out for his first "hunt". Every deer he saw he wanted me to shoot He had a blast and watching him enjoy it made my weekend even better.

I didn't take anything as the only thing legal was a small spike. A 8 point came alone with the spike on Saturday morning. He was too close to call as far as his spread so I let him go. He and the spike left together and about 20 min later, I hear a rifle go off . Sunday morning around 7:30, the spike comes back, but his buddy wasn't with him .

On with the pics...

Small spike

8 pointer

That last pic looks like a nice deer. Big body deer. What was wrong with him?

Seeing someone close to you get all excited to shoot, and harvest a deer or the like is just as exciting as shooting my own self. I posted already, all we have this year so far is a spike, some hogs, and an ELK. There are two deer i want to shoot on our place, and I'm waiting on those monsters to pop out. They each have THREE main beams, awesome deer!

Let him shoot the spike if anything! He will still love it

Why didn't you cull the spike, i.e., get that out of the gene pool?

Because the $200 ish processing fee is the same for a low yield spike and a high yield Buck.

I'll only take one a season, don't have money to throw around like that.

If I go back the weekend after Thanksgiving and don't see a nice buck, I'll take a spike and or a doe.

What area are you hunting?
My processor charged <$160 to turn my doe into 50/50 brisket hamburger grind and package in 1lb packs. He does some good stuff with Italian sausage and Jalepeno cheese too.
That'll be next

I thought you looked older than that when I met you. Camera adds weight and removes age I guess.

he's an asymetric 13 point, only likes to come out at night unless his friend is around. Well I shot his friend last year... and a real nice 11 point the year before that.

then before that I had a 6 year dry spell, not a deer to shoot at.

look at the lower left of the color day photo
