Sharing lanes is illegal right?
I am asking because I was just following 2 officers who were sharing lanes but from my understanding since moving here that it was illegal. Obviously doing 95 mph on the beltway is illegal also but that didn't stop them (or me keeping up with them from 249 to 59

Very illegal and they do it all the time, I seent em. I'll ride with them if they decide to ride staggered, but if they are lane splitting going over 95 I'll seperate.

The get a little leeway. Who's going to pull them over? From my understanding sharing lanes is illegal, though I've shared lanes with bikes many times and never had an issue. Those guys guy train enough that it's safe to say most of them can use that bike better than I can use my own . And that's a lot. I've ridden with a few that were cruising near 100 in next to no traffic and they didn't seem to mind.

Groceryboy whats up!!!
It is not illegal to ride two abreast in a single lane. Motorcycle cops do it because its the safest way to ride on the highway.. I'm the MOTOHOUSTON expert when it comes to this subject. |

Not statue in TX against riding two abreast. So basically it is legal as TMAX mentioned.

Funny, two Cedar Park officers rode by me today and I told my wife they wanted to be like Ponch and John
![]() Guess I was wrong on that one. ![]() I thought there was something about only legal for one vehicle in it's lane at a time, and that is part of why we couldn't lane split. But I are ignorant and lazy, and I don't care to look it up as I don't ride thatawayanyway. EDIT: for the yunguns... Ponch and John... |

...dunno on legality, the REAL question is, will a LEO pull you over/ticket riders for sharing a lane together, or riding abreast. Keep in mind that's different than a bike 'sharing' with a car etc, and or one rider buzzing another rider in the same lane.

It isn't specifically illegal to split/share. California has provisions to allow splitting whereas Texas does not state anything comparable in either direction.
You can get a ticket for wreckless driving or something generic, but there are no specific laws against splitting or sharing lanes and that means any ticket you get for it is very debatable. |

I was talking about the lane splitting part.
Lane splitting - Not Authorized. Riding 2 abreast in one lane - Not referenced in administrative code or statutes. Pretty much the same IMO. How does one swerve around pot holes or other road conditions/hazzards in that scenario. What if the rider can not brake in time to avoid a collision up ahead? His choice of path for evasive manuver is cut in half if it exists at all. |
